You had decided to go study in the library and get away from the crowded Great Hall for a while. The pressure of your OWL exams was starting to take it's toll on you, you felt the weight of mounting pressure bearing down on your shoulders. Sleepless nights were spent pouring over textbooks, attempting to cram a term's worth of knowledge into your tired mind. Anxiety tightened its grip, causing your heart to race at the mere thought of the impending tests.

You walked to the library, holding some textbooks in your arms. Students were passing you along the hall, but the corridors seemed quite empty to what they usually were. Struggling to open the huge wooden doors, you finally smelt the scent of old books and quill on paper.

Walking over to your usual table and ready to start studying, you stopped. You spotted a familiar head resting on his arms on the table, bent down. It looked like he was sleeping.
  "George?", you questioned, stepping over.

The boy didn't reply, and kept his head buried in his arms. But after hanging out with the twins for so long, you knew that it wasn't Fred. You could see the little mole on his neck."George!", you said again, which caused him to look up and face you.
"Oh good, it's only you. What's up?"
"Studying. Though I can see you're not doing the same?"

George sat up properly and reached over the desk to pull out a chair for you to sit on. "Hiding. My ex has decided to become bat sht crazy", he grumbled.
You looked around as you sat down, noticing that the library was mostly empty. You pushed your books to the side and turned your attention on your friend. "What do you mean?"

"Following me around everywhere. Begging to get back together. Not leaving me alone".

That definitely sounded like an obsessive ex. "Mhm. Sounds like fun. But why the library?", you said.
"Because my ex knows that I would never set foot in here. This is actually the first time I've been in here since second year", George said proudly. "Not including when Fred and I come in here for prank- related purposes. Anyways, it's the one place that's actually safe".

You sighed slightly and stared down at the table, wishing you could help him. "You need to start dating again. Get your ex off your back"
"You thing that'll work?", he asked.
A shrug. "Probably. You gotta try"

Silence fell over you two as George looked away, conflicted. He was picking away at the loose skin around his nails, forgetting about your existence for a seconds. "Hm. Date someone. Anyone interested in me?"

Probably. I mean, this was George. Who didn't have a crush on him? "Course. I'm sure, anyway. I mean, I don't have names, but-"
George gasped, causing you to stop mid- sentence. He started tapping your arm excitedly. "You! You can date me!"

"What?"

..

I mean..

"George, what?" When you daydreaned about him asking to date you, this was not the way you'd expected. It usually involves something dramatic and romantic, like kissing in the rain or angrily confessing your feelings- usually the stuff you read about in books. "Are you asking me out?"
George paused, studying your face. "What? No, no. I'm saying fake date me, get me off the market. Come on, please? I'll owe you big time"

You couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment sinking down your stomach. It was as if he had given you some hope- even for two seconds- and then snatched it away. Still, you couldn't show your true emotions to him. You put on what was probably the fakest smile in existence. "And you want me to pretend to date you?" You forced a laugh.

George shrugged. "Well, yeah. You're right in front me". He asked because you were the first person he saw? "I mean, why not? It's believable. We always hang out, we're close. The only part that's a bit hard to believe is the fact that you bagged someone as great as me", he winked and laughed, teasing you.

You faked yet another laugh, but everything he said was true. "Yeah, right. Just for that, I say no deal"
"No, wait, I'm sorry!"
"Sorry, Georgie"
"Please! Please, I'm on my knees here"

You rolled your eyes. "What's in it for me?"
George stopped to think. "What do you want?". For me to really be dating you. But obviously you didn't say that. "I don't know. But you owe me a big favour. And I mean really, really big".
"Deal!" George said almost immediately. "Wait, so you agree? We're dating now?"

I wish.

"Sure. Fake dating. But what does this entail? Like, hand holding and stuff?"
George  nodded. "Yeah. Just when my ex is around and stuff. And maybe a bit in public to get the ball rolling; get people talking".

Just then, George's ex walked into the library. George's eyes widened, his hiding place now discovered, as his ex's jaw dropped.
George quickly grabbed his stuff and stood up. "Bye, darling", he said to you, and bent down to kiss your lips. After a second, he pulled away for a beat before kissing you quickly again, then he stood up straight and strode out of the library, ignoring the glances from onlookers.
