Rain looks at the medical bay display screen, then back at Sky as if to confirm what he is seeing. His friend looks to be in as much shock as Rain, so it doesn't seem like he is imagining things.
Rain puts his hand out and touches the two little beans on display there.
"Twins?" He says, trying to process what he is seeing.
That morning Sky had forced him to come to the medical bay. They had been walking to the cafeteria together, since the alphas were having an early morning strategy meeting, when Rain had another of those strange dizzy spells. Sky had caught him as he staggered and insisted on getting him to the medical bay for testing despite Rain's protest that he was fine.
"Are you going to tell P'Phayu?" Sky asks.
"I will have to, I just don't know of now is the right time." P'Phayu hadn't wanted Rain to come with them in the first place. It was only because Rain was the unofficial ambassador between their two planets that he had finally agreed. Even then he insisted Rain wasn't to take a step off the ship until everything was secure and safe.
"Rain, I think you should tell him. He'll want to know." Sky says, and Rain knows he's right. He just needs to figure out how to do it.
In the end Rain decides the best thing to do is just tell him. He waits up for P'Phayu that night as late as he can but falls asleep on the chaise lounge in their room. When he wakes the next morning, he knows P'Phayu has been there. He is covered with a blanket and there is a note saying his alpha had to go for more meetings. Rain makes a face at the note, how many stupid meetings can they have.
Rain riffles through the laundry, finding a shirt that smells particularly strong of his alpha before curling back up into bed and falling back to sleep.
When he wakes again P'Phayu is there to his delight. "P'Phayu, I have something to tell you." Rain says excitedly.
"Are you just now waking up, little one? Are you hungry?" PPhayu asks with a concerned frown.
"No. I mean yes, but I need to tell you." Rain starts but there is a knock on the door.
"Enter." P'Phayu says.
P'Pai sticks his head in and says, "just seeing if you are ready for the next round of meetings?"
"Go ahead, I will be there in a minute." P'Phayu says.
"Another meeting?" Rain asks sadly.
"I'm sorry, little omega, I will try to be back by dinner tonight. Get dressed and go get lunch." P'Phayu says.
"But.." Rain says.
"No arguments," he kisses Rain on the cheek and strides out of the room before Rain can say another word.
Rain looked after him, feeling disappointment wash over him. Why wouldn't he listen to Rain?
Rain goes to find Sky and see if he wants to have lunch. Maybe the afternoon meetings won't last too long.
Despite P'Phayu's promise to have dinner with Rain, dinner time is almost over when the alpha makes an appearance, looking dead on his feet. The cafeteria is almost empty, and Rain has spent the last hour pushing the food around on his plate.
"You're late." he pouts at P'Phayu.
"I'm sorry, little omega, the meetings went on longer than planned." P'Phayu says grabbing a plate of food and sitting down.
"Listen, there is something I need to tell you." Rain says.
"I'm listening." P'Phayu says. "You can tell me anything."
