Jade
My wedding is tomorrow. My wedding is tomorrow and I'm freaking out. It's become much more real. I picked up my dress this morning. The Choi's backyard is being setup as we speak. "Oh Klaus, what have we gotten ourselves into?" I run behind his ears and tape up the last box in my apartment.
Theo and I decided that we should move in together to keep up appearances. Can't start a "marriage" if we're still living in our own places. Klaus blinks at me and trots over to his bed. Luckily for me, my lease is up at the end of the month. I open my front door when I hear a knock. "Mom what are you doing here?" I ask.
"I came to make sure you weren't going to do something crazy like cancel the wedding. Are you finished packing?" She asks. I nod, "Yeah. The movers are coming in a few hours." "How are feeling? Nervous, excited?" She asks.
"I feel like I'm gonna puke. It's become much more real now." A few weeks ago it wasn't so bad. I knew it was really then but still. But as the wedding got closer and we did cake tasting and dress fittings it really hit me. "I bet. I felt the same way when I married your father."
"I know I've gotten on your nerves through this whole thing but I'm so happy for you honey," my mom hugs me. "Ma please don't start the water works," I comment on her watering eyes. "Oh shut up. I can cry if I want," she wipes her eyes. "Anyway, I'm here to help take your mind off things. I brought your favorite movies,"she holds up the dvds of 'Dreamgirls', 'Enchanted', and 'Hairspray'. I bounce excitedly.
"I haven't seen Enchanted in forever! Come on let's watch it," I pull her over to the living room. "Wait girl. I have to go get the wine and food out the car," she laughs and sets the movies down. "Okay well hurry up or ima start without you."
I retrieve wine glasses from the kitchen and pause when I hear another knock on the door. "How much food did you g-" I look around in confusion when I don't see anyone at the door. I look down and see a vase of white roses sitting in front of the door. I pick them up.
I open the card and smile when I see the note from Theo. "Are those from your fiancé?" My mom wiggles her eyebrows stepping back inside. "They are. He's so sweet," I set them on the counter. "You say it like you're surprised," she begins pulling the food out of the containers.
"Sometimes I am," I pour our wine and go back into the living room. Hours pass by as we binge watch the movies, the movers come and go. "I can't believe this is really happening" I say when we finish. "Believe it. You should get some rest. You have a big day tomorrow," she stands and grabs her purse. "Will you stay with me?" I ask.
She looks at me in surprise and nods, "Of course I will. You don't even have to ask," she sets her purse down and sits down on the couch. I lay my head in her lap and close my eyes. I love my mom, I'm glad I can do this for her. As much as she irks my nerves and pushes my buttons.
"Jade. Jadeee," my mom shakes my shoulder. "It's time to wake up." What the hell is she talking about? "I literally just went to sleep. Are you trying to drive me mad?" I sit up with a huff. "You did not just fall asleep. It's Friday girl. You know, your wedding day?" She shows me the date on her phone.
"Oh my God!" I jump up. "Why didn't you wake me sooner? Ugh Hilary has called me a dozen times. We have to go!" I go into my bedroom and grab my dress and shoes for today. "We can shower at The Choi's."
"Come on!" I urge her. "I'm right behind you. Uh Jade, are you gonna leave Klaus here?" She asks. I slap my forehead and pick Klaus up quickly. He yelps in shock at being woken up. "I fucking hate this traffic! Just go!" I honk at the line of cars in front of me. My phone chimes with a incoming message, "are you here?" Theo texts. "Almost" I respond.
Thirty minutes sitting on the highway and we finally arrive. As soon as I pull the car into the driveway Hilary is throwing open the door. "Where the hell have you been? The stylists are already here. Most of the guests are here!"
"I'm sorry! I overslept," I explain rushing into the house. "In here," she pulls me into a room near the entrance. I'm not sure what it was before, but it's been turned into a mini salon now. "Bathroom is there. Hurry up and shower. We have to do your hair, makeup, and nails and get you dressed in less than an hour. Why did I choose to become a wedding planner?" Hilary shakes her head.
It's my wedding day and she's more stressed than I am. Ironic isn't it. After my shower I spend what feels like an eternity being plucked, prodded and pulled on. I am officially overstimulated. My braids are pulled into a heart shape at the back of my head with a few curls framing my face. My face is beat so professionally even I'm amazed, light purple eyeshadow is dusted over my eyelids with glitter in the corner of my eyes. My lips are covered in lipgloss.
Hilary comes in and claps her hands, "Get her dressed now!" I'm zipped into my dress and a bouquet is tossed into my hand. "Where's her jewelry?" Hilary asks. She looks around the room and rolls her eyes at the silence. "I brought some. These belonged to my mother," my mother steps in front of me and fastens the pearl necklace around my neck.
There's a knock on the door and then my father enters the room. "Jade, you look so beautiful," he coughs to cover the emotion in his voice. "Dad don't make me cry. If you cry I'll cry. And Hilary will kill us both," I whisper.
"It's time. Theo just walked down the aisle," Hilary leads us out of the room and towards the back door. We stop in front of the doors and she fluffs out my train and attaches my veil. "One, two three," she pushes the doors open.
Every pair of eyes turns toward us as my father and I walk down the aisle. My eyes connect with Theo's and my stomach betrays me yet again, filling with butterflies.
