EDUARDO WAS MORE CONCERNED with helping the young woman than capturing a zombie at this point.
"Over here!" he screamed at them. He could tell the female student was getting tired.
The two zombies saw him and turned in his direction. This gave a chance for the student to run in the opposite direction. She waved at him in thanks as she took off.
Eduardo pulled a knife out of his pants pocket. The zombie coming at him was about his height, so this should be easy.
He used his forward momentum, along with the zombie's. The knife plunged sideways into its eye socket.
But it still kept on coming.
Eduardo backed off. Finally, he saw the zombie's remaining eye turn from bright green to black. The zombie stopped, while the other one kept on coming. Eduardo ducked down in front of the other zombie. The zombie tripped and fell on the ground.
By this time, the stabbed zombie had stopped in place, then slowly crumpled to the ground.
"I guess it's safe enough to grab my knife," he said to himself. He kneeled down and pulled it out of the zombie's eye socket. It was easier than he thought. All the tissue inside its brain must have turned necrotic.
He stood up. Now he had to decide what to do about the other zombie. Lisa needed one to experiment on. She didn't know it yet. She'd wanted to focus on making the remaining living students immune to a zombie bite.
He patted his pockets for something he could use.
"There!" he said, pulling out a long length of fabric. He turned towards the zombie struggling on the ground.
He went over and grabbed one of the zombie's arms. It came out of the socket in his hands.
"Gross!" he said, tossing it away. "Hmm, I wonder?" He bent down over the ground and grabbed onto the zombie's left leg. He pulled.
Sure enough, the zombie's leg came way.
"Hah! Yahhhhssss! Easier than I thought!" At that point, it was simple enough to do the same to the zombie's second leg.
The zombie make gurgling sounds, but it wasn't loud enough to draw any more zombies to him. He could hear screaming sounds in the distance.
He grabbed the other arm and it came out of the socket too. He looked down at his work, proud of himself.
"Just one more problem to solve." Now that he knew what was in his pockets, he pulled out a handkerchief. He took it and wrapped it around the zombie's mouth so he couldn't be bitten.
He smirked. "I am the cleverest man on campus." It was a good thing his two friends weren't there, or they would call him out on his egotism.
He then grabbed what remained of the zombie, and tossed the torso around his shoulders.
"Let's go!" He turned and headed for the direction of the biology laboratory. It was probably early, but he would get his task done, get the zombie secured in the biology lab, then head out and look for more supplies.
The first part was simple. He got into the laboratory building easily enough. There was no sign of anyone, living or dead.
He propped up the zombie torso with head onto a chair. He found some packing tape and taped the zombie to the chair. The zombie groaned and moaned and tried to move a bit, but it was helpless.
For good measure, he used the packing tape to cover the handkerchief around it's mouth. He also covered the zombie's eyes with paper and taped over it so the zombie couldn't see.
Eduardo stood back and looked at his handiwork. "Nice! Now we just have to get Lisa to do some experiments on this dude."
He checked his watch but it was only 30 minutes after he'd last seen his friends. "Good."
That gave him plenty of time to snoop through the laboratory building to see what supplies they might need.
In his head he made a list. "Matches, lighter, packaged food, bottled water, more weapons, tape, staples and stapler, what else?"
He peered into the other rooms in the building. Most were some form of laboratory, whether for chemistry, physics, biology, or geology. He grabbed some supplies, but this wasn't really the place for food or water. Occasionally, he'd find some snacks that a professor may have forgotten in their desk drawer.
He peered around the final room on the top floor. "If I were a virus, where would I hide?" Because if the virus started at the university, it would have had to have been in the building. But nothing has seemed suspicious or out of the ordinary.
He walked down the stairs. He was on the bottom landing, when he saw more stairs leading down.
"Of course. The basement. I've seen all the movies." He headed down the flight of steps. Of course the bottom door to access the basement hallway was closed and locked up.
But he was prepared. Earlier, he'd grabbed a hammer. He took it out of his backpack. He lifted it up high, and hit the deadbolt lock hard. It took a few swings, but it finally came loose.
He wiggled it until it fell out of the socket. He dropped it on the ground. "There. Done." He was now able to open the door and enter. The door swung shut behind him.
It was dark inside. He pulled a small flashlight out of his pants pocket. He flipped the switch, then aimed it up and down the narrow hallway.
"What the?!" he exclaimed to himself.
Looking down the hallway were several eyes peering back at him.
"Oh shit!" He was hoping they were human eyes, but the more he flashed the light along the walls, the more he could see that they were the dead, not the living.
He backed up to the door and tried to turn the knob, before all the zombies noticed him.
The moaning and groaning started. The noise carried widely, as there was only concrete in the basement and no insulation.
He didn't get freaked out too easily, but he frantically tried to twist the door knob. It wouldn't open.
"Rats! I am doomed!" The door wouldn't open, and them his flashlight batteries died.
