Chole and I decided to have a girls' night out. With so much going on, I needed a break. What's better than retail therapy? As I exclaimed, "Mom's going out," I grabbed the car keys. The mall wasn't too far away, so I parked the car and headed inside.

Suddenly, it started raining. Change of plans. I headed back home. Chole texted me, saying she'd be there in ten minutes. I glanced at the weather; it looked like rain was in the forecast all day.

The doorbell rang, and Chole entered, wet from the rain. "Come in," I said, and we both went upstairs. "So, what do you want?" I handed her a towel to dry her hair. Her face lit up with a mischievous grin. Sometimes, Chole acted like a child.

"I dare you to sneak into Jake's house and steal something from him," Chole smirked. "Please tell me you're joking," I snorted, scratching the back of my neck. She laughed. "Nope."

What was supposed to be a peaceful Saturday had turned into a nightmare. "Nope, not doing it. I'm not risking it, Chole. I could get fired," I said, throwing myself onto the bed, trying to change the subject. "What do you want to watch?" I turned on the TV. Chole rolled her eyes. "Don't change the subject. You're new and already in trouble."

"I'm not, please," Chole begged. Still not convinced, I shook my head. "All I can think about is my job. I really don't want to lose it. Please, please with a cherry on top?"

I placed my hand on my chin, considering if it's worth losing my job. In today's world, finding a job isn't easy. Before my mom moved us here, she applied to 12 places. She never lost hope, and eventually, she found a job here as an official. "Fine, but you owe me," I said, finally giving in.

I've only known Chole since Monday, but it feels like I've known her forever. She's your typical redhead teenager, crazy, and with a distinct fashion sense. She's 4'2" and bursts into giggles like a four-year-old. "I can't wait for the party!" I groaned. "You can't tell."

"Cover me," I told Chole as I put on my spy outfit. "Ugh, hope this is worth it." I opened the door, climbed out, and shut it. "I can't get in," I muttered to myself. "I said over the walkie-talkie." "Use a bobby pin," Chole suggested. She threw the walkie-talkie, and I could see no sign of Jake. He must be quiet. I walked to his room, trying to grab something. Just as I was about to grab his notebook, I heard a knock on the door.

"Shot!" I said, hiding under the bedcover. "What are you doing?" Jake's voice came through. "Are you kidding? You know I wouldn't miss that party for anything." He chuckled, his thick accent evident. "What about the new girl?" someone asked, probably Zack. "I can't believe they're talking about me." If only Jake knew I was under his bed. I closed my eyes; he was about to change. I didn't need to see his whole body.

He sat down, and I cursed under my breath. "Great." I needed to get out before I got caught. "But now pray for a small miracle." The nerd was laughing. I so hate him. Jake said, "Someone said," as he walked into the room, leaving the door wide open. "Mom, wait, did you do the groceries?" he asked, walking out of the room. Thankfully, he left. "Thank God for small miracles," I thought. I grabbed anything I could, climbed out the window, and decided I was never doing this again.

"Ever?" Chole asked. "I give it to her, a pencil." "Really?" Chole said, sounding disappointed. "Well, I didn't have time." "I was expecting something else," she said. "Like what?" "His boxers," she exclaimed. I couldn't believe it. I was touching Zack's pen. "I know, right?" Chole said. "Just two days in, and we already have a project due. So far, we've got nothing. We could do a blog about Zack." She burst out laughing, and I felt like I'd been hearing his name all day. "I swear, if I hear his name again, I'm going to freak."

"Chole, I am serious. We need to focus," I said, trying to keep the conversation on track. "Okay, mommy," Chole said, clearly joking. "I'm going to have a snack." I walked downstairs into the kitchen and grabbed some chips and sodas. I loved my Saturday afternoon. Sundays were different; I've never been a morning person. I walked upstairs. "Zoey and Chloe, let's walk before you know we're done." I laughed.

"Wow, look at the time

Author's Note:

I want to acknowledge that this chapter draws inspiration from the movie "Sleepover." However, let me assure you that my intention is not to replicate or copy the movie. Instead, I've taken the foundation laid by the film and added my own unique ideas to it.

Just as an artist might paint on a canvas that was previously brushed with another's strokes, I've used the movie's essence as a starting point. From there, I've woven in my own threads of creativity, giving rise to a narrative that reflects my distinct perspective and imagination.

By building upon the existing framework, I hope to create something fresh and captivating, a story that resonates with its own voice while paying homage to the inspiration that sparked its creation. So, as you delve into this chapter, know that while the movie "Sleepover" was the spark, the fire that burns within these pages is a testament to my originality and vision.
