I shut another cupboard in the kitchenette, being sure to press the button on the handle so it wouldn't open. "Gosh, do you guys not have any good snacks on this bus?"

"We have plenty of good snacks!" Alex glared in mock offense.

"But not any I currently want to eat."

"I asked if anybody else wanted food," he warned, glancing at everybody in the front lounge and tightening the grip he had on his take out box. "Everybody said no. So don't go pining over my sandwich!"

I chuckled a little as I sat back down across from him at the table. He didn't need to worry, I didn't want his sandwich. All I wanted was a snack.

You see, I was visiting Jack on tour for a week, which meant living in a tour bus with a handful of men for a week. Archie was staying with my parents and Olive had been brought to a friend's house. As much as I missed our little boy, still getting to come out there like the good old times was incredibly fun.

But it also meant intruding on space these men had been sharing for much longer than I'd be there.

"Why do they always add olives to sandwiches that would be perfectly fine without!" Alex groaned in annoyance, picking off every black fruit he could find. "Anybody want them?"

"Give 'em on over." I shrugged and held out my hand for him to give them to me.

He pushed the styrofoam box towards me with his elbows, picking off one last olive before taking the first bite of his sandwich.

I pulled up one of my legs and picked up one of the olives. As soon as I dropped it in my mouth, I couldn't help but be delighted. It was exactly the snack that I had been looking for. The flavor just scratched an itch I didn't know was there. Honestly, I didn't even realize how much I had been enjoying them until after I had eaten a few more and looked up to see Jack staring at me inquisitively.

Something about his questioning look made my heart skip a beat. It triggered a thought that felt a little too hopeful. Was he thinking the same thing?

After sharing eye contact for another second, Jack pulled out his phone and typed something before my own phone lit up with a notification. I quickly grabbed it and saw the text from Jack.

Jack: Rachel...

Me: You don't think...

Jack: Olives?

Me: I think I might have a pregnancy test hidden somewhere in my bag

I glanced in the direction of the bunks, knowing that it was just feet away. We were currently on the road, but I didn't think I could wait any longer. And Jack's expression seemed to mimic the way I felt.

We had been trying for another baby for eight months at that point. Every month, I'd take a pregnancy test, just for it to come back negative. That specific month, however, I hadn't taken one. Jack was on tour, we didn't get to have sex at the most optimal time in my cycle, and now I was in close quarters with other people. It didn't exactly scream take a pregnancy test.

But it was exactly all I could think of doing at that moment.

Jack: Take it

Me: I will, just let me play it off like I'm just going to the bathroom

Jack: Alright. Hurry

We made eye contact again as I locked my phone and simply held it in my hand. I snuck a few more olives into my mouth, trying to find the most casual time for me to stand up. It felt like everything would raise suspicion.

Eventually, I got up and strolled towards the bunks. Once I got to the one full of luggage and other junk, I started rummaging through my bag. I was trying to be subtle, but it was hard with how literally everything I brought with me was covering up the pregnancy tests at the bottom. As soon as I felt two of the strips in my hand, I stuffed them into my toiletry bag.

Nobody except for Jack seemed to care about me going into the bathroom. Which was good. The sound of the bus' engine covered up the sound of me ripping open the two packages. And then all I could do was try to keep my balance as the bus moved and I tried to pee on the thin strips. It wasn't the most optimal way to do it, but the curiosity was too great.

Jack was staring at me as soon as I left the bathroom again. But now was the time for us to be even more patient than we had been the past months. I had hidden the tests back into my toiletry bag and set a timer on my phone. I gave him a look and made my way back to the bunks, putting the toiletry bag back with my other stuff for the time being.

"And?" Jack asked in a hushed tone as soon as he stood next to me.

"Now we wait," I responded, keeping the same quiet voice.

"Okay..."

He leaned against the bunks, right next to the junk bunk, his eyes constantly flickering around my body. It was a long three minute wait. A wait that included Rian pushing past us to get from the back to the front lounge. It was a good reminder that we were still in a shared space and that we had to be very careful.

Eventually, my phone started vibrating. I had turned the ringer on silent, so it was our signal to have a look. Jack and I held each other's hand tightly and I went to open up my toiletry bag again. It was a nerve wracking moment when I double checked that nobody was about to come our way and pulled out the two tests.

But there it was. On both of them. Two little pink lines. It almost seemed unreal, like it was supposed to be the bad lighting. But they were so clear. The tests had never been this clear when I was pregnant with Archie.

Not a single word was shared between me and Jack. He turned my head towards him and immediately planted his lips on mine. We were having another Barakat baby.
