Chapter 2: Shifting

Hailey's wolf up top

We have been running for 4 hours now. We are supposed to shift soon. Our legs hurt and we are hungry. We have been trying to find The White Wolf pack but came up with a blank. I don't think we will ever find them. Every hour that goes by, my hope goes down.

Hailey and I will be a Rogue that packs hate and tries to kill. I will die out here and never know what love is. Hailey will die out here too knowing I didn't protect her, like I promised.

All of a sudden, Hailey cried out in pain and fell to the forest floor. I stopped and ran to her. I heard a bone crack and rearrange. I started to panic. She's shifting. Oh no. It's going to hurt like crazy.

She screamed. I grabbed her hand and heard another bone crack and rearrange. I cringed as I heard it some more.

After an hour of Hailey screaming, the shifting was finally done. I looked at her in awe. She was a white and brown wolf.

She blinked and stood up. I gave her a sad smile and sat down. She barked playfully at me and gave me a Wolfe smile. She walked to me and laid down. I smiled and started petting her.

After a while, I got up and started walking again. Hailey came next to me and started walking.

After what seems like hours, I felt a horrible pain in my chest. I cried out in pain and fell to the ground. Hailey stopped walking and whimpered. Whenever I was in pain she would fill it. I think it's part of the pack we are in.

I heard my bones rearrange and then the pain just got worse. I heard Hailey whimper and then the world went black.

Rebecca's POV

I was sitting in my room when I heard a knock on my door. I got off my bed and walked to the door. When I opened it I saw my brother, Chris, standing in the hallway.

"Hey Rebecca," he said and hugged me. I hugged him back. He pulled away a couple minutes later. "I need you and Natalie to go to the store." He said smiling sheepishly. I rolled my eyes. Of course.

"Fine, but this is the last time. You boys need to stop eating like a grizzly bear." I said and walked to my closet. I grabbed my combat boots and slipped them on.

"What can I say, sis, when you have an appetite like us, you have to eat," he said rubbing his stomach. I rolled my eyes and grabbed my jacket.

'Hey meet me by the car' I mind-linked Natalie. I walked out of my room and down the stairs. I had this feeling that something was going to happen today.

'Okay' she linked back. We got into the van and started driving to the store.

When we got everything, we put the bags into the car. I started the car and started driving to the house.

All of a sudden, I got this horrible pain in my chest. I pulled over to the side and turned the car off. I turned to Natalie and she too was breathing hard.

"You felt that right?" I asked, smiling. She nodded smiling to but soon our eyes widen and we jumped out of the car. Let me explain. We probably found another one of our pack mates but he or she might be in pain.

We ran in the forest and started running. We ran to where we were getting the feeling and heard a scream. Natalie and I looked at each other than ran faster.

We got to where the scream was just in time to see a girl pass out. I looked over and saw a whitish and brown wolf laying down beside her, whimpering.

I ran up to them and the wolf growled at me. I put my hands up in surrender and knelled down beside the girl. I grabbed her wrist but let go when the wolf snarled.

"Natalie, get this wolf some clothes so we can talk to it properly," I said. She nodded and ran back into the woods. After a couple minutes, she came back with some clothes.

"Here you go," she said and handed me the clothes. I nodded in thanks and held out the clothes for the wolf. It growled but took the clothes anyway. I let out a breath and waited. She came out and glared at me.

"Who are you?" She asked. She sat down next to the girl and put her head on her lap.

"My name is Rebeca and this is Natalie. We are from a small pack but we are strong and we are getting bigger every day. May I see your wrist?" I asked holding out my hands. She hesitated a second than put her wrist in my hand.

I looked at her wrist than gasped. A half-moon. Another pack member. I looked and Natalie and showed her the girls wrist. She gasped too. I turned back to the girl who had a look of confusion on her face. I looked at the other girl.

"May I?" I asked the girl. She nodded. I grabbed her wrist and looked at it. I gasped again. "We have to go" I said and got up. I picked up the girl laying down and started walking.

"Wait! What do you mean?! Where are you going?!" The girl said following us. I kept walking until we got to the van. "What are you doing?!" She asked again. I put the girl in and turned to the other girl.

"Listen, I will explain everything when we get somewhere safe but right now we have to go." I said and pushed her in. I closed the door and jumped in the driver's seat with Natalie in the passenger's side.

I started the car and started driving to the pack house. I can't believe this. Some more White Wolf.

We got to the pack house and I shut the engine off. I jumped out and opened the back. I picked up the girl that passed out and the other girl started yelling at me to stop.

"Will you shut up already?!" I yelled. She shut her mouth and I let out a breath. "Thank you," I said. I turned around but only for her to start yelling again. Gosh, it's not like we are kidnapping you guys!

Slowly, the pack started to come out of the house to see what all the yelling is about. I groaned and turned around.

"Will you be quiet for one second!" I yelled and she shut up. "Thank you. We are not going to hurt you guys we are going to help" I said. She scoffed and I groaned.

"Please. I know what people like you do. I was with those kind of people my whole life" she said, rolling her eyes. People gasped and started whispering. My eyebrows pulled together in confusion.

"What do you mean?" I asked. She gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. She shook her head and tears started rolling down her cheeks. " Hey, it's okay. You can tell us." I said in a soothing voice.

She looked at the girl in my arms and her eyes widened in fear. I looked down to see her pale. I cursed and turned around.

"Someone get the pack doctor!" I yelled. The pack doctor ran and grabbed the girl from my arms and ran to the pack hospital. I followed close behind with the girl behind me. I hope she's okay.
