Amelia stood on the high school lacrosse field, her anticipation palpable as she prepared for try-outs. She adjusted her lacrosse stick and helmet, eager for her shot.

In the midst of her preparations, Stiles, panting and frantic, sprinted up to her.

"Amelia! Amelia, wait up!" he called out.

Amelia turned to face him, a hint of irritation in her voice. "Stiles, I'm playing the first elimination, man. Can it wait?"

Stiles grabbed her shoulders, his eyes filled with urgency.

"Just hold on, okay? I overheard my dad on the phone. The fiber analysis came back from the lab in L.A. They found animal hairs on the body from the woods!"

Amelia's curiosity piqued, but her eagerness for the try-out still pulled at her.

"Stiles, I gotta go," she replied, trying to break free from his grip.

Desperate to get her attention, Stiles lowered his voice and revealed the startling information.

"Wait, no! Amelia! You're not gonna believe what the animal was."

However, Amelia was too preoccupied to hear him, and she walked away, leaving Stiles looking disheartened as he whispered his revelation.

"...It was a wolf."

On the lacrosse field, Coach Finstock moved to the center, rallying the players to gather around him.

"Let's go! Gather round! Bring it in, come on! Come on!" he barked.

Amelia noticed Hanisa on the sidelines, getting ready to settle down in the bleachers to watch the practice for the second day in a row. She waved at Amelia, who waved back. Coach Finstock caught the exchange and called out to her.

"Got a question, Gilbert?" he asked.

Amelia looked confused for a moment. "What?"

Coach raised an impatient brow, prompting Amelia to drop the idea.

"Nothing. Sorry."

Coach continued with his pep talk, emphasizing the stakes of the try-outs.

"Okay. You know how this goes. If you don't make the cut, you're most likely sitting on the bench for the rest of the season. You make the cut? You play. Your parents are proud," he declared, giving a demonstrative shake to the face mask of the player in front of him.

"Your girlfriend loves ya! Huh? Everything else is, uh... cream cheese," Coach added with a smirk, locking eyes with Amelia for a moment before encouraging the players to get on with practice.

"Get out there and show me whatcha got! Come on!"

Amelia joined her fellow players as they dispersed across the field, their cheers and whoops filling the air as they psyched themselves up for practice.
