Thanks for the recommendation MayaV
This happens after the original series and the Heroes of Olympus series. I also don't know Piper's character really well so sorry if it doesn't sound like her. I also do not own Percy Jackson.
TW: Death & A bit of Blood
"Great choice, by the way," I said as I shoved into the small bag an even smaller book, "It started as a prank, but ended in murder." I read from the back.
"It's trash, low-brow horror , I bought it for my step-daughter." the woman answered.
I flashed her a fake nice smile that could make killers run. "Have a nice night."
'Attention shoppers," A voice came over the intercom, 'Shadyside mall is now closed.'
Thank goodness, I thought. I had only taken this job to help dad when I wasn't at camp.
Ring
The phone rang, "Hello this is B. Dalton's. Sorry, we're closed."
"Piper, when did you start working late?" My boyfriend Jason answered.
"Since my dad lost his stupid job."
Ah-
The line went dead, "Hello? Jason, are you there?
I walked out of the store, Maybe Jason are doing some stupid joke on me.
"Hello Jason?"
No answer
"Jason?"
BANG
My head snapped to the side. A janitor stood there as he picked his mop up off the ground. He nodded his head and continued on his way. A small laugh settled inside me.
"All alone now!"
"Oh my gods" I yelped as I spun around on my heels.
It was Jason with a punching dummy?
"You better watch out. Bricks still exist, you know."
"Forgive me?" He replied with puppy dog eyes. His sister Thalia, the daughter of Zeus probably would have been able to resist his puppy dog eyes, but me, the daughter of Aphrodite, could not, at least not completely.
"Fine, but you have to drive me home."
"Deal." Jason replied, "But give Jasmine and I fifteen minutes to close up."
"You named her?"
"Well Percy wanted to call it Nemo."
I rolled my eyes as I made my way over to close the store.
"Yeah?" Jason called out towards me.
"I didn't say anything Jason," I replied, finding it a bit weird for even him, "it's probably just how late it is."
I went to close the gate. It didn't close the whole way. I tried it again. Same thing. I gave up, it was pointless to try to close something that just wouldn't.
I entered back into the store and found a book neatly placed on the ground. It was oddly placed, but this was an even odder town. I picked it up and placed it on the shelf.
Thump Thump
My spine shriveled. I turned around, no one was there, not Jason, not Percy, nobody.
"Hello?" My voice shook. I stepped forward step by step.
"Very funny Jason, now come on, let's go."
I looked in front of me another book a little more crooked this time by still right side up and neatly placed. I sighed and lifted it up. I could hear another book ruffle in the distance. I started walking towards it with the first book still in my hand.
"I'm spooked ok. You win." I said my voice stinging in seriousness. I counted walking, step by step by step. A split cup of some orange drink layed there on the ground. I stepped towards it to look at it and then took a step back.
I heard a noise behind me. I turned as swiftly as possible. Someone dressed as a skeleton. I only looked at him for a brief second before silver came swirling towards my stomach.
It missed hitting the book. I dropped it and sprinted towards the exit. I dropped myself to the ground sliding under the gate.
I ran. I ran so fast my legs couldn't run much faster.
"Jason! Jason!" My voice screeched. I ran and ran and ran. I looked in a store. A phone. I picked up the phone.
911 I dialed.
"Hello, I'm in the shadyside mall."
I could hear him. I hung up. I crawled up next to the wall and stayed parallel to it. I turned my head.
A skull. A gasp snuck out of my throat. It wasn't him. I prayed to the gods, he didn't see me. I continued down. I saw another one with a skull and told myself not to flinch. My breath shaking just as much as I was. I stared out at the entrance of the store hoping he by some miracle wouldn't enter. I started to step away from the wall. Step, step, st-
An arm wrapped around my throat as a scream was ripped from it. I felt metal slash against my stomach with unimaginable pain. My scream became impossibly loud. I felt him go to move the knife again. By some miracle I forced myself to stop screaming.
"Let go" I grunted out. He did. I reached out behind me clutching my stomach. My hand griped onto something as I swung it and hit him over the head. I ran out of the store into the center near the food court. There were people..
Dead.
There was the janitor
Dead.
And there was a man dressed as a skeleton behind me.
Alive.
My running increased.
He continued to run after me.
I kept running. My shoes flying off my feet.
But he ran faster.
I ran and ran and ran but he was right behind me and he was faster.
"Help! Please!' I desperately screeched.
There was a slash down my spine.
I hit the ground.
It hurt.
Everything hurts.
I screamed. I tried to crawl away.
Soon he was above me. His knife raised above his head. Hand over my mouth. It seemed as though he held it there forever. The inevitable was unbearable. His hands came down. The silver went into my chest as I screamed in agony. Metal filling my mouth.
I could feel myself slipping away. I reached up to his mask through the agony. I somehow gripped it and pulled it down.
"Jason?" I sounded weak. I tried to scream but I couldn't. Every sound was muffled.
"Bang" I heard.
There was a heavy weight.
And then there was no more.
