Amelia enters her home and drops off her bag on the table. She seems a bit frustrated. She goes to sit on the couch where her cat lies and picks him up. She starts asking the cat about what she should do about her career and about the new man in her life. She tells the cat how she doesn't want to leave her newly found love when it has only just begun but at the same time her career in Nursing is everything to her.
Plus she hasn't been able to solve her mothers murder. Her cat looks at her with a saddened look. She smiles and tells the cat that he probably can't understand her anyways and lets him down. She decides to go upstairs and get the key for her special drawer from the bathroom.
She gets the keys and unlocks the drawer. She sits down on her bed and her head just falls. She's looking at all the papers and articles about her mother and is wondering what all went wrong. She hasn't made any progress in her mothers murder and she just feels defeated. She looks up at the picture she has of her and her mother on the wall which gives her the courage to not give up.
She starts reading through the newspapers and medical reports again trying to see if she had missed something. The newspaper headline reads "Local woman aged 45 found dead at Tombsboro Memorial park".
The lead paragraph states that the woman was found with her head almost ripped away from her body and her body completely drained of blood. There were no witnesses or footprints found at the scene other than the victims. There was surveillance footage of what looks like a person fleeing the scene but it was found inconclusive.
Nobody could make out the video. After reading through the rest of the article Amelia picks through the autopsy report. The autopsy states as they were putting her mothers head back on her neck showed these two deep puncture marks like a bite. Both holes had punctured her jugular vein.
The largest vein in the neck. It carries a tremendous amount of blood. She was found with scratch marks and bruises all over her body. It looked like someone wanted to obliterate her. After reading through the autopsy report and some more newspapers Amelia decides to go look at the footage and see if she can make out what it is. She calls an Uber since her car was wrecked in the accident and heads down to the Tombsboro local police station.
As she pulls up to the station she feels like her heart is about to sink into her stomach. She's nervous that she might actually find out the truth after all these years.
She gets out of the car and enters the police station. She walks up to the front desk and tells the officer her name and asks him if she could look at the evidence from an old case of theirs.
The officer looks at her and tells her that he would lose his job if he allowed her to look at evidence.
She tells the officer that it's her mother's unsolved case and that she's been trying to solve it since forever and that she can't move on with her life until she does. The officer feels sympathy for her and asks her what her mothers name was.
She replies her name was Ella St James. The officer tells her to wait right there while he sees what he can do. The officer gets up and heads to speak to another officer that works in the back with the evidence.
He tells the other officer that he needs to access some evidence from an older case and that it's very important he doesn't tell anybody. The other officer tells him that he will let him access it if he gives him 200 dollars seeing as it could potentially get him fired. The officer agrees and hands him 200 dollars.
The other officer asks for the name and case number. The officer doesn't know the case number but he gives him the name. The other officer logs onto the computer to access the files and to figure out where they are located.
He tells the officer that Ella St James file is located in cabinet 16 shelf 2 section 1. The officer thanks him and heads over to the cabinet. He opens it and finds all the files and notes and the tapes in a box. He comes out of the room and nods his head over at Amelia for her to come into one of the interrogation rooms. She heads over.
He tells her that he can only buy her 30 minutes, maybe an hour. She thanks him. He heads back to the front desk. Amelia opens up the box and starts looking through the files. She opens up the crime scene photos and almost throws up. She sees her mom in pieces. Tears start to fall down her face. She tries to hold her composure but the tears keep falling. As the tears fall she starts looking for the tapes.
She finds them. She starts looking around for something to play them in. She spots an old dusty player in the back of the interrogation room connected to a computer. She sets everything up and slides in the first tape.
It plays and it shows people walking and jogging down the pathways of the park. She speeds up the tape and sees her mom running. She starts to smile. As she sees her mom run she sees a man follow up behind her.
His face is hidden and it's almost like whenever the camera pins on him it starts to glitch around his figure. The camera ultimately cuts off. She takes tape 1 out and plays tape 2. Play 2 shows after the attack. It shows the man before he flees the scene, his face looking up at the camera. His eyes are like laser beams.
Just two bright white lights. It takes up his whole face. She keeps playing it over and over again but she still can't get a clear shot of his face. The officer comes back in and tells her her time is done and she needs to leave. She tells him okay.
She takes out her phone and records the tapes and puts everything away and leaves. She's heartbroken that she didn't get to discover any answers. As she goes to call her uber Daven texts.
