Mila's POV:
After my photo with Lizzie, I strolled around exploring the rest of the convention for a bit. I would've loved to get an autograph from Scarlett, but I kinda missed the information when she'd be at her booth. Which was very sad but at least I got the photo. It was starting to get pretty late, and I felt myself getting really tired. I walked outside the big building, breathing in the fresh night air. My aunt had told me she would pick me up, where she dropped me off, so I decided to wait on the bench again. My phone was almost dead, so I put it away and watched the stars while I was waiting. Half an hour later, which felt like an eternity, my eyelids started to get heavier, and I decided it wouldn't hurt to let them rest for a few minutes, which was a mistake because I passed out soon after.
Scarlett's POV:
Once the convention had ended, I decided to call it a night and went to say my goodbyes to the others. Once I had gathered all my stuff, I called my driver and went to wait outside. It was a wonderful night, not a single cloud could be seen in the sky, but thousands of stars. I inhaled the calming salty breeze and looked around for a place when I noticed something or rather someone laying on the bench. The person was too small to be a drunk, possibly creepy man, so i slowly approached them. From up close I could see that it was a girl, probably around 15. She was laying outstretched on the bench as if it was her bed. Was she homeless? No, that couldn't be, she was holding a brand-new marvel comic in her arms. So she must've been to the convention. Was she waiting for somebody?!
I decided it would be the best to wake her up since its pretty dangerous outside alone for a teenage girl and it was common sense to not just let the girl here alone. What if something would happen to her which I could've prevented. I gently started to shake her awake.
"Sweety, can you hear me?", I tried keeping my voice as calm as possible to not freak the poor girl out. I shook a bit harder, when the girls head shot up, almost startling me to death. The girl gasped loudly and looked around her, clearly trying to figure out where she was.
"Hey there... are you alright? where are your parents?", I asked concerned. The girl took out her phone, it was 10:30 right now, the convention ended more than an hour ago. she frowned at the screen, before it went black. "Sweety?", I was trying to get her attention, her head snapped towards me.
"Ah umn sorry miss, what did you say?", she asked. "I asked where your parents are little one. you shouldn't be out here at that time of the night alone. It's not safe..." the girl just starred onto the road. I was getting really worried. "What's your name sweetheart?", I tried again. "Mila", I got a short reply after a few seconds. "Where are your parents Mila", I asked her again. I really had to know if she was taken care of. despite the bad light, I could see the girls' eyes tear up.
"Hey, hey what's the matter? Sorry I didn't mean to upset you...", at this point I was unsure what to do. "It's not y-you", the girl, Mila tried to hold back her tears. "M-my aunt was supposed to p-pick me up, but she g-got a nightshift, and t-texted me I should s-stay at one o-of her friends' house. B-but m-my phone d-died and now I'm lost."
It broke my heart seeing the poor thing crying, barely able to talk without choking on her words. Her situation was messed up, like really messed up. "Did you come here alone sweety", I ask putting my hand on her shoulder, trying to calm her down. she still sobbed and hiccupped restlessly, having a hard time to calm down. "Hey baby, is it okay if I hug you?", I felt so bad for the girl.
she slightly nodded and I pulled her in my lap, positioning her that she could rest her head on my shoulder. until we figured something out. I rubbed her back in a soothing motion, hoping I could calm her. "Do you know your aunts number Mila?", I asked after a few minutes. "N-no" I tried to figure out a way how we could fix this. "Where does your aunt work, sweetheart?", I asked. "S-she works as a nurse in a hospital around here...", Mila replied. Okay, that was at least something.
I heard my driver arrive. "Okay Mila, how about this... I'll take you to my hotel and there we can call the hospital where your aunt works alright? I'm Scarlett by the way.", it took the girl a while to reply with a nod against my shoulder. "I need words sweetheart... I'll only take you with me if you're comfortable enough. I just don't want you spending any longer out here in the dark", I spoke with a concerned tone. "Okay", she replied, which was enough for me. "Can you stand up for me?", I ask gently waiting for her to get off my lap. Once she stood on her feet, I took her hand and lead her to my driver's car. "Get yourself comfy... it's about a twenty-minute ride...", I told her, but she was already half asleep again, leaning against the window. she must be really exhausted. I sighed and leaned back in my own seat, occasionally sending glances over to the girl next to me.
Mila's POV:
I must've fallen asleep while waiting for my aunt. Suddenly I was shaken awake by a stranger. I immediately looked at my phone, seeing a text from my aunt, telling me she couldn't come pick me up, but she had a friend near with whom I could stay. Does this woman even realise that I'm in a foreign country, even continent and she left me alone somewhere in San Diego. I got forced out of my thoughts when the woman, that woke me asked me what my name was. I answered her and explained my situation.
Why trust a stranger you think? Well first of, she's a woman, second, she had a calming voice, and somehow made me feel save. I don't know okay. I recognized her voice from somewhere, but I couldn't wrap my mind around it. I was so overwhelmed with the whole situation I started to cry, choking on my words. the woman tried to calm me down, eventually pulling me in a warm, cozy hug which eventually calmed me down.
A few minutes later when I had calmed down somehow, she asked me if she could take me to her hotel, where she would call the local hospital and ask for my aunt. I didn't know what to say. was I really ready to trust her? I mean she was a stranger... but my guts were telling me I could trust her. and I trust my intuition. So I agreed eventually. Scarlett, she had told me her name, took my hand and leaded me to her car. Something in the back of my mind screamed that I knew this woman from somewhere. But I was too tired and exhausted to ponder about that now, so I decided to push it away. Once in the car, I leaned my face against the cold window, closing my eyes. I heard the woman, Scarlett, faintly tell me something but before I could even progress what she's saying everything went black and sleep consumed me.
