Welcome Home

Scarlett's POV:

During the whole ride there was a comforting silence lingering in the air. I occasionally glanced over to the passenger seat, noticing Mila chewing on her lip while looking outside the window. It must be overwhelming suddenly moving in with us. after all she hasn't even met Colin yet and I'm still not really sure how she feels about me. I mean sure she let me comfort her when she was distressed, but that doesn't have to mean anything. At least she agreed with me taking care of her, and I remember her knowing my name that day in the hotel. maybe she saw my movies? I'm definitely going to ask her that.

Once I pulled into the driveway, I went to grab her suitcase, which she immediately refused regardless of my protests and followed me to the door. I gave her a reassuring smile, hoping to ease some of her nervousness and opened the door, leading her inside. I could see her eyes widen in awe as she looked around the entrance before cringing when Rose ran down the stairs. 

"MILA YOU'RE HERE!", she yelled from the top of her lungs, making me wince internally. "Sweety, I know you're excited but remember, no screaming in the house", I got completely ignored when my daughter ran towards the teen jumping in her arms giggling, before dragging the poor girl by her arm towards her room. "Come on! I wanna show you my room!", she cheered excited. "Rose, baby, don't you want to let Mila settle in first? you can show her the room we prepared for her...", my daughter just pouted looking at the teen with pleading eyes. "But I wanna show her my toys first! please mommy?" 

I was just about to tell her that maybe the girl wanted a bit alone time first, to unpack her things and stuff, when Mila spoke up for the first time since we arrived: "It's okay Miss Johansson, I can unpack later. I don't mind it.", I was surprised at how formal she was suddenly becoming, maybe it was the nervousness. "Please, Scarlett is just fine.", I placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder and gave it a squeeze, which earned me a smile from the girl. not even a second later she got pulled upstairs by an excited Rose jumping up and down.

Mila's POV:

Walking into Rose's room left me flabbergasted, the entire place was pink and princess themed. Looking around I couldn't help but chuckle at the little girl's obsession with Disney princesses, and all this girly girl stuff. The thought that the daughter of black widow being into all the pink, glitter princess things was quite amusing to me. 

"Do you like it?", Rose asked bouncing on her bed. "A castle worthy of the little princess you are.", I teased, which made her smile cheekily. "I love it." "Who's your favourite princess?", she asked me as I walked further into the room admiring the pastel pink painted walls with butterflies and fairy lights hanging down from the ceiling. "I used to love the sleeping beauty... my mom even sewed me a dress for carnival.", I told her. "What? Really?", Rose looked at me with big eyes. "Yeah, I can show you a picture if you'd like...", I offer to which she nodded excitingly. 

We spent around half an hour exploring Rose's room before I suddenly remembered I haven't introduced myself to Colin yet. Gosh, I must seem so rude. I felt my anxiety come back, biting the inside of my cheek before turning to Rose. "Hey Rosie, could we maybe stop for a moment and look for your mommy? I totally forgot to say hello to Colin...", Rose nodded and led me downstairs into the living room. I noticed everything in this house seemed to be clean and neatly organized which made me feel like in a museum, afraid to touch anything, well except for Rose's room, which wasn't any different from a normal messy six-year-old child's room. 

I snapped out of my thoughts when I noticed Rose was gone leaving me by myself in the living room, before I heard footsteps approaching. "... Mila wants to say hello to you", I heard the energetic little girl talking as she came into view again this time with a man walking behind her. 

"Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Colin", he offered me his hand for a handshake, which I accepted. "Umn yeah h-hi, I'm Mila, sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier. I didn't want to seem rude.", I apologized feeling my cheeks heat up in embarrassment. I heard him chuckle in response: "Don't worry kid, I know how hyped Rose was to finally have a big sis to play with. She wouldn't stop talking about you." Colin ruffled Rose's hair as she whined and smiled shyly at me. 

Our moment was interrupted by Scarlett walking in the room. "I think it's time we give you a proper house tour, what do you think honey?", Scarlett smiled at me gently and I gave her a thankful nod. It'd be nice to find my way around the house without having to ask Rose every time I looked for something. Scarlett showed me around the house as promised while Colin excused himself for a call. 

Lastly, she showed me the guestroom I would be staying in for the rest of the year. "Make yourself at home, sweety. There is still a week ahead until you have school so if you want, we could go shopping to make your room a bit more... well yours.", she offered kindly before letting me unpack my things. "Just call for me if you need help, yes?", I nod and start putting my clothes in the empty closet. 

it still felt so surreal to me that I was actually going to stay here for a whole year. like how did that even happen?! I pushed my thoughts aside taking my favourite clothes and putting them in the closet before leaving the rest in my suitcase and shoving it under the giant bed which was standing in the middle of the room. Just to be prepared if they'd change their minds about keeping me here. 

an hour later I heard somebody call for me, so I quickly put my phone away and made my way downstairs. "Here she is! Mila dear, we thought about having a movie night today is that okay with you?", I heard Scarlett's raspy voice ask, to which I immediately respond by nodding my head, smiling. "Great, I hope you like pizza... we ordered some.", she said patting the space next to her on the couch. 

"I swear to god, if we have to watch frozen for the 30th time this year I'm going insane.", I heard Colin complain which made both me and Scarlett chuckle. In the end, Rose chose that exact movie, which I didn't really mind. "Have fun girls! I still have some work to do...", Colin excused himself, giving Scarlett a kiss on the cheek before disappearing in his office. 

"Don't worry, we won't force you to watch princess movies nonstop... it's just the easiest option that doesn't include her crawling under my blanket in the middle of the night because of a nightmare...", Scar whispered in my ear before kissing my forehead and starting the movie. I really enjoyed our time together, feeling oddly comfortable with the two. Rose falling asleep on me in the middle of the movie only added to the peaceful atmosphere.

A/N: Hello my dear readers, first update in 2024... I know its been a while but I'm still alive. Not much longer though if i don't pass that shitty geography exam I have on wednesday. Anyways, i hope you enjoyed this chaper eventhough it wasnt anything special... I'm always happy for feedback and suggestions for things I could include in my story.
