Several days later, Sam's phone rang in the darkness of Bobby's living room. With bleary eyes, he reached for it and saw that it was Liz. He sat up. "Hello?"

"Sam?"

There was something in her voice that gripped his heart and he pulled on his boots, waking Dean in the process. "What's wrong?"

"Mary's sick. She has a fever of 102. I'm taking her to the hospital—"

"I'm on my way," he stood, then. "I'll meet you there." He looked for the keys to the Impala.

"Sam, I know what I said about wishing, but you don't—"

He paused and frowned deeply. "I'll meet you there, Lizbeth. Period."

She sounded relieved when she said. "Thank you." Then she hung up.

"What is it?" Dean asked, pulling on his own boots.

"Where are the keys?"

"Sam!"

Sam looked at his brother as if seeing him for the first time. "Uh, Mary's sick. Liz is taking her to the hospital." He patted his jeans pockets and looked around the room as he continued. "I told her I'd meet her there. Dammit, where are the keys?!"

"I got 'em. I'll drive," Dean said, grabbing his jacket.

"What's going on down here?!"

Dean looked over to see Bobby as Sam stalked out of the house. His eyebrows rose after his brother as he answered Bobby. "Liz is taking Mary to the hospital. I'm driving Sam to meet her. Catch up to us when you can."

"I'll be two minutes behind you!" Bobby yelled while running back up the stairs.

Dean rushed out of the house to find Sam already at the Impala, frowning furiously up the steps at him. "I'm coming!"

By the time Dean got to the bottom of the stairs, Sam pulled the door open and sat in the passenger seat.

"I'm sure she's fine," Dean said, as he started Baby and pulled out the of the scrapyard. "Kids get sick from time to time."

Sam frowned. "She's five weeks old, Dean. Any fever is dangerous at that age."

Dean nodded. "I know."

Sam's eyebrows did a dance. Then he looked at his brother.

"What?" Dean frowned. "You think you're the only one who reads those books you leave all over?! I care about that little girl, too!"

Sam nodded and clapped his brother on the shoulder. "Drive faster."

"Don't be bossy, Bitch."

Sam's lips quirked up in the corner despite the fear and worry he was feeling. "Jerk."

Sam ran into the ER and looked around for Liz, his hair falling into his eyes. Pushing it back, he found her staring at a door, holding herself. "Liz!" He rushed to her.

"Sam!" She fell into his arms as soon as he got to her.

"Where's Mary?" he asked, wrapping his arms around her.

She pulled back. "In there. They won't let me in!"

"Why not?" Dean asked, making her aware of his presence. He glared at the door.

"They're doing a spinal tap for meningitis and they said it's very painful and parents tend to get in the way, so they made me leave!" She bit her lip, fear clearly etched on her face as she looked up at Sam.
