Dear Carlisle,

I must say, whilst Europe was a pretty place, Africa is truly magnificent. The animals and wildlife here are extraordinary. I've been in the same place for a while now, watching a pride of lions for hours on end. They're so dignified and like a family of their own. The old watch the young, the men hunt for the women, the women care for the men. It's a perfect society. I've approached them before and found that if you just show respect to them, they can be pleasant creatures. I even touched one of the lions' manes!

But I feel that every time I find something beautiful in this world, something is always there to tarnish it. And in this case, it's the humans. They hunt these beautiful felines, and I do worry about the future of these cubs. I hope they can grow up and live good lives on their blissful veranda.

I do wonder how much the American soil has changed since I have been gone. Maybe you have had to move on and don't receive these letters anymore. I suppose that's the bad side of you not knowing where I am, you will never reply to these. But I'll always write to you Carlisle, and I can only hope and pray for your safety. I imagine I'll be returning sometime soon, but as we both know, that can change in an instant.

Your

Edith
