The primary sources recount a black moon rising on the night of the Sack of King's Landing. According to the Maester of casterly rock, the moon was a clear sign of Tywin Lannister's victory. According to the High Septon, it was the gods' disappointment for the genocide committed within the walls of the Red Keep.

However, according to many others, the black moon rose the moment the lifeless body of Elia Martell, wrapped in a red cloak, expelled the small and prematurely born body of her daughter right in front of Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon.

The cry of the newborn echoed in the halls of the throne room, a tender cry filled with fear, as if the infant knew what had happened within those walls.
Many said it was Robert who moved the cloak, others Ned; the sources are conflicting, and witnesses are few.
What is certain is that Ned Stark asked to have the little newborn, to keep her himself away from her origins, concealing who she was. However, the new king refused, sparking a furious dispute.

Ned Stark returned to his beloved North, and Robert became King. The newborn was entrusted to the care of a wet nurse from the Stormlands, who named her Visenya, a name chosen long ago by her mother.

Visenya Targaryen was born from death.
Death brought with it her enemies.
