She pulled her muffins out of the oven, she was working at her bakery today. Some part due to the fact she had no work at the Academy today but, mainly because she missed working in her bakery. No matter how long she's gotten used to baking in the Kitchen in her classroom, this place still feels like home to her.
" William, have you adjusted to the environment here?" She asked the teen who she hired a month ago. He nodded, "Yeah, I struggled the first week because I couldn't get used to the influx of people at certain times but, I've gotten the hang of it now." She nodded in understanding, most of the people she's hired over the years said similar things.
"The only thing I struggle with is the actual baking." She put her finger on her chin and said, "What's the most difficult part for you?" He scratched his cheek, "Um...the...mixing the ingredients."
"I see, make a batch of cookies for me. I'll walk you through the process." She knows some people struggle with making things from scratch. So, she quietly observed him, offering helpful tips whenever he seemed confused. She corrected an error and explained the proper method when she spotted it.
"So, what type of cookies are we making?" He asked, looking a little lost. She smiled slightly and crossed her arms, "What type of cookies do you want to make?" He looked at all the ingredients on the shelf. "Maybe a striped fudge cookie?" He said, turning to look at her, "Okay then. Do you want to finish the process or want me to take over from here?" He looked down at the cookie dough, "Can I finish it?"
"Very well, I'll leave you to it while I check on Lucia and Amelia." She says before walking out of the kitchen. She walked through the door into the packaging station. Lucia's blonde hair bounced as she turned around when she heard the door open. There were three opened boxes in front of her, there were muffins, cookies, and a pie in the boxes.
"Ms. Silver! I didn't know you were here today." She jumped in place in her excitement, she looked at the bag she was holding. She hopes there's not any food in there. But, most importantly, where are the others? She shrugged before concluding that they were probably in the front. As she took the bag out of Lucia's hand Alice poked her head in, "Lu, creme-filled cupcakes please, oh hey Ms. Silver." Her braided brown hair fell over her shoulder as she looked back at Lucia.
"Rush hour is almost over, you can relax after that." Silver looked at the display on the wall, five orders hadn't been completed so far. "I take it you still haven't gotten used to the afternoon rush hour then, Lucia." She says as she goes and helps her bag the orders.
"Sorry, there are like ten orders every five minutes. I don't want to imagine what it's like in the kitchen." Lucia complained as she closed the boxes and wrapped them up. She pulled down the creme-filled cupcakes, "Alice, is there any specific flavor they want?" She asked the teen as she moved to the window counter. "She said she would like chocolate cupcakes." She thanked her as she pulled out five cupcakes. "Well, it's pretty stressful for someone who started recently but there's supposed to be four others with you. Are they in the front?" She asked her as she wrapped up the cupcakes and moved to the last order on the list, five cookies and three slices of red velvet cake.
Lucia turned to her surprised, "There is? At most Alice or Tommy would be here." She paused for a moment, she'll have to ask Alice about that. Wait, no. Francis should be appropriate because he's the one who's supposed to operate this place while she's at the academy. "Yes, it helps everything run smoothly. And keeps newbies from getting stressed."
Lucia looked down, embarrassed feeling that Ms. Silver was making a jab at her. She didn't get to stew in these feelings as Ms. Silver continued, "Your seniors are supposed to take the brunt of the work to help you ease into your new job. Not leave you hanging dry and being dropped into the deep end immediately. So, don't feel down, and feel free to ask for help from those around you." She looked at Ms. Silver in awe, she was so different from her previous bosses, who yelled at her for the slight missteps and didn't care that she had recently started.
