Jangmi ran errands for herself and her mother at the nearby grocery store. After the unsettling incident at the coin karaoke place, she couldn't shake the unease of being alone there, but she had steeled herself for any situation. The trip to the store went without incident, and the shopping was uneventful. However, just as she was walking home with the bags of groceries in hand, an unexpected voice broke the silence.
"Choi Jangmi?"
Her stomach dropped as she turned around, her eyes landing on Sunho, who was approaching her with hesitant steps. Though the urge to drop the bags and confront him surged, something in his demeanor gave her pause. His eyes were red and swollen, a sign he'd been hit with pepper spray.
"What do you want?" she asked, her voice flat.
"I wanted to apologize," he said, his voice barely above a whisper, his fear evident.
Jangmi's brow furrowed in confusion. Why was a man like him—who'd always seemed so sure of himself—now so afraid? But she pushed her curiosity aside. "I didn't catch that. Speak up."
"I'm sorry," he repeated louder, his hands shaking. "I apologize for what I did to you and Im Jugyeong."
She stepped closer, watching as he instinctively backed away. "Have you apologized to Jugyeong too?" she asked, voice cool.
His eyes darted to the side, and the faint redness of his face made it clear that Jugyeong had likely used pepper spray on him as well. Still, Jangmi's expression remained unchanged. "I don't want to see your face again," she warned, her voice cold. "And if I do, you'll wish pepper spray was the least of your worries."
Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked away, her pace brisk as she headed back to her home.
The rest of the evening passed with Jangmi texting Minho, filling him in on the latest drama from the coin karaoke incident. His usual witty commentary helped her shake off the tension and put a smile back on her face, offering a much-needed distraction as she vented.
MINHO:
Seojun coming to your rescue like that? So romantic! I'm mad at my boyfriend now because he never did something like that for me.
JANGMI:
too bad he's not my bf.
MINHO:
Are you finally admitting that you want him to be your boyfriend?
