The front door of an opulent mansion was pushed open by one of its residents. The person walked inside, and shut the door behind him firmly. His voice, followed along by some chuckles, filled up his home's hallways as he tossed his school bag to the side. It was a burden on his shoulders. He didn't need it right now.

He held the phone up to his ear, communicating with the one on the line. He spoke in a cheery tone to them while trailing himself further into his household. The place seemed quiet and still. It was only him at this moment, along with the individual who was heard talking from his phone.

"Oh come on. So what if I leaned over your shoulder and took a quick glance at your answers during the quiz in English?" The teenage boy rolled his eyes in a playful manner, and leaned himself against a wall that was painted a vivid white colour. He darted his eyes about his home before turning his attention back onto his phone call.

"And? I'm your bestest friend, aren't I? Surely you don't mind.." A giggle came out from his mouth after he made his statement. He then remained quiet for a few seconds before parting his lips to talk again. "You're smart, muffin! Why would I copy off Jake of all people? Have you seen him in quizzes? Of course I resorted to you."

Silence consumed the atmosphere again.

"I know, I know.." He rubbed his temples with a smile. "Okay fine, I owe you one. What do you want this time? Bubble tea? A new notebook? Something associated with the colour pink?"

...

"Just my company is enough..? Aww, that's so sweet.." His cheeks became warm, and his brown eyes softened.

"Anyways, I better hang up now since I just got home. Besides, you don't wanna be late for your little date with Jake. Hear that? Three rhymes in one sentence." The boy laughed. "Yeah, Hails. I'll see you at school tomorrow. Tell Jake I said 'hi' alright? Bye now!"

A few strands of his magenta-coloured locks fell from their place and hung lowly before his eyes. Using his fingers, he brushed the hair away from his eyelids and lowered his phone down away from his ear. He then hung up the call, turning the device off afterwards.

"God, what a long day.." A low sigh came out from him. "It's nice to be back home.."

He laid his deep hazel eyes upon the flight of stairs that was near the entrance of his abode. Wanting to be in his bedroom for a little bit, he picked up his school bag he had earlier thrown into a corner and draped it over his shoulders. He was just about to head upstairs until suddenly, he picked up on someone clearing their throat, making him stop in his tracks which was very obviously their intention.

"Hello there, Drew.."

The voice belonged to a middle-aged woman, who was dressed up quite elegantly and in a proper manner. Her hair was the colour of a mauvish-crimson, and her eyes had the pools of a verdant green. She re-adjusted bits of her attire that were out of place, but still kept her sights on him.

Hearing his name, the teenager made eye-contact with the woman, all while kicking a foot of his against the stained concrete floors.

"Hey mom.." Drew greeted her, and fiddled with his hoodie strings. For some reason, he felt a sense of anxiousness loom over him when it came to speaking with his own mother. This is something he always found strange, and he wasn't able to provide answers or an explanation for this.

"You didn't say hi when you came back home. Instead, I heard you talking to someone. Were you on the phone?" The female, whose name is Marley, asked her son a question. Her arms were folded, her expression was stern, yet her irises seemed to hold a delicate gaze behind them.
