In attempts to take control of the group, me and Darius had silently volunteered to lead the way, one problem. we didn't know the way.
I guess the others expected me to know every inch of the jungle, but I have no idea where we are!
Darius took me out of my thoughts when he pushed some long grass out the way and let me walk through first, to which, I smiled and he followed me, letting the grass fall back into place behind him, we stood beside each other and I watched from the corner of my eye him slap at his neck killing this fly that was buzzing around us.
It was so hot out, the humid air and the plants feel like they cling onto you, trapping you in a torture chamber of heat. I tied my hair up to let my neck breathe, unfortunately it just made me more of a target to bugs.
You could hear us all panting, occasionally wiping sweat off our foreheads. I swear Costa Rica is never this hot until there is a life threatening problem!
I think It's safe to say we are all on edge.
I keep my eyes darting around us only occasionally do I actually look where I'm going, Darius has had to grab my shirt a couple of times to stop me walking into something or tripping over.
I am once again took out of my thoughts when I hear a loud snap behind us and we all turn screaming to see Ben with one foot on a twig, "Sorry, I stepped on a twig"
Yaz lowers her fists and I step away from the front of Darius, as I had stepped in front of him.
"Ugh, come on, man"
"Jesus fuck, you gave me a heart attack" I put my fingers on my temples, leaning my head back and closing my eyes.
"I should step on you" Kenji adds. "Kenj that makes no sense" he gives me a deadpan look before I put my hands up defensibly. "I need to make light of the situation or I will burst into tears"
I see a concerned look come my way from Darius but I mouth an 'I'm fine' so he sighs, "It's okay, Ben" He says. "We're all on edge".
"And lost" I add.
"Yeah, we've been out here for a while now. Lexi, we sure we're still headed towards the park?" Sammy asks. I perk my head up at the mention of my name and I go to answer before Brooklyn beats me to it, "Well, we'd be sure if we still had our phones, because it has a GPS, a compass app, and is also a phone!"
I groan throwing my head back, "I'm gonna go find a tree to bash my head against while we have this argument again" I whisper to Darius to which he snickers. I find the nearest tree and lean against, screaming internally.
