Undershift AU

*THE RUINS

You fall down onto a soft pile of leaves. Your confused, how did you get here? Where did these leaves come from..? At a quick glance the room seems closed off but after closer inspection, you find to be a path to the east. There is no where else to go.

The path gives off ambient purple light and you see two small snails curled up next to each-other, you feel happy to see such kindness. Suddenly there is a door, a large door clearly made for someone much bigger than yourself...
You walk through it to find yet another room, with a pile of leaves in the middle...though now there is what appears to be a short, stout skeleton with a very small slash in his skull going across his mouth standing in the middle, in between you and the next door.

You stumble back in shock

The skeleton stares with a big grin on his face. He has a yellow jacket, with what seems to be small, rather clean cuts on it on over a white shirt, green shorts and....slippers?

"Hey there, kid. Your new here, huh? I'm Sans. You?" He says staring at you, or you think staring at you. He doesn't have any eyes that you can see. 

*you nod and mumble that your name is frisk, unable to tear your eyes away from the living skeleton*

"Say frisk, you never seen a skeleton before? Staring is rude, ya know" You shake your head, taking a step back away from him. He steps forward. "Say, do you want me to explain this to you? It is my job after all. Don't want me getting fired, do ya?" You ponder the consequences and decide that you need to know more, you nod.
Suddenly a green heart appears in front of you. You stare at it curiously. The skeleton continues on.

"What you got there is your SOUL. It's the "very culmination of your being." Heh, at least that's the technical term. Truth be told, it's just your heart, your life, whateva you wanna call it." He shrugs "Now onto the important part." He points at the little green heart. "Your SOUL starts off weak, but can grow strong if you gain LV.
LV stands for level. You gain level through ATTACKS. When you see them, run into as many as you can" He says nonchalantly. Your eyes widen. Why would he lie like that? That's not nice.

The skeleton takes notice of your reaction. "What? Don't believe me....?" You shake your head, keeping a hand in front of your SOUL defensively.
"I guess I should have put more effort into hiding it. Heh, oh well." He shrugs, one of his eye sockets lit up with a yellow eye, He raises a hand and bones appear above his head, glowing yellow. "It's just.....lying is so tiring, I was really hoping you'd make this easy." His hands come down towards you, the bones moving simultaneously, aiming for your SOUL. You jump to the side quickly, barely managing to dodge out of the way.  You look up at him, just in time to see a new array of bones come flying at you. While trying to step out of the way you slip and fall on the loose leaves on the ground. Clutching your shirt, hand phasing right through your SOUL, you look up at the skeleton.

He stares down at you, grin still just as big as when you walked into the room. "Sorry kiddo, down here it's kill or BE killed. You're a goner anyways, might as well help you out before you get false hope, ya know?" He raises his hand for the last attack then a bone attack almost identical to the skeleton's comes out of nowhere and hits him in the head. You recognize the expression of contempt as he collapses onto the red leaves and looses consciousness.

"Human!! I'm so sorry! I should have been here sooner. I am PAPYRUS, caretaker of the RUINS! I cannot believe you had to deal with my brother on your own. I greatly apologize!"
