in all honesty, cerus hightower didn't know where y/n came from.
one stormy night when he was sitting at home grading his student's project, loud knocks rang throughout the small, yet cozy, residence.
he sighed, thinking about ignoring it and continuing with his work. life has not been kind to cerus. girlfriend walked out on him, unenthusiastic students he had to teach every weekday, underpaid, shit boss.
cerus was just there in the world.
no purpose. no talent. no friends. no will. no happiness. no hope. no one to care about. no use. no worth. no motivation.
but something was pulling his heartstrings to get up and go over there.
and so he did.
cerus dropped his red pen and got up from his chair with a heaving sigh. as he opened the front door of his house he stood there confused for a moment as he was face to face with nothing.
that was until he looked down and saw a small baby, not older than 2, on his porch wrapped around a blanket in a basket.
he stood there even more confused.
"what the bloody hell..." he mumbled and poked his head out his door to look around the area. he was hoping to find that whoever left this baby on his doorstep wouldn't be far gone. alas, the sky was dark and the rain was heavy.
cerus crouched down and picked up the baby.
maybe this was a sign.
a second chance at life to be something. something to someone who wasn't an English professor or just some bloke walking along the street.
maybe God did hear his prayers to give him something. anything.
something in his mindset changed as he closed the door to his home with a newfound twinkle in his eyes.

cerus knew his daughter wasn't normal after a few days of taking her in.
after he had frantically stuffed sheets of paper into his book bag, black tie loose around his neck, he hurriedly ran to his bedroom where his baby lay, cushioned between two pillows. he decided to name her y/n, after his grandma, when he noticed something peculiar.
"what the..." he breathed in disbelief as he saw what was once normal (hair colour) hair now be bright bubblegum pink hair.
even though he was late for his job back at the university, cerus had priorities and that was to check what had happened to his baby.
"what do you mean nothing is wrong with her?" cerus asked with furrowed eyebrows as he stared at the doctor. the other man just sighed as he rubbed his wrinkly forehead.
