Chapter 4 - Bakery Business

8:00 AM, Sato's alarm breaks the silence of his room. As he got up, he remembered what happened yesterday—that entity. That entity gave him a stronger resolve to learn more about his past. Walking to the bathroom, he received a text from Madam M: "Wear casual for today's assignment. Gear only, but no uniform." After a quick shower, Sato put on his white jacket with a red circle on the back. He attached his gun holster to his left leg and wore his office lanyard. Leaving his home, he was greeted by a bouquet at his door. They were a mixture of red and white roses. It was his first day yesterday, and he already received flowers. He checked the tag, which read, "Thank you for saving us." There was no return address or a name to show who it was from. He brought it inside and placed it on the dining table before heading out again. 

The elevator ride to Madam M's office feels serene and peaceful. It was quiet and gave a view of the outside. Madam M's elevator is encased in reinforced glass and hangs outside of the building, allowing people to take in the breathtaking view of the city. Reaching the 20th floor, he noticed her door was already open. Knocking on the opened door, he walked in. He saw Madam M sipping her drink as she stood by her office window overlooking the city. She looked as if she was in deep thought until he broke the silence.

"M?"

"Ah, Sato, sorry. I was reminiscing about our childhood. Of how the eight of us would play together at the playground near the orphanage."

"I've been meaning to ask, is the orphanage still around?"

She shakes her head as she replies, "Not anymore. The city tore it down and converted the land into a park."

"I see. Anyways, I'm here for today's assignment."

"Today's assignment. Ah, yes. Come have a seat."

"Why am I dressing casually today?"

"Right, Sato, you must dress like this from today onwards. I realized that having you in our uniform makes you look too rigid and unapproachable. I usually visit clients wearing casual attire. I only wear my uniform during ceremonies or high-priority visits involving high-ranking people. And besides, it is more comfortable wearing casual."

"Alright, I will dress like this from now on."

"Right, you will visit a bakery stall for today's assignment. Two sisters, one older and one younger, opened a stall selling homemade baked goods. I'm not sure of the younger sister's name, but the older sister is Cressida. She wrote that they have a newly opened stall and wish to promote baked goods through us."

"Do we help with promotions? I thought we are mostly a company that deals with hand-to-hand assistance, not marketing."

"Ah, I forgot to tell you that here at SSS, we do everything. Of course, everything is legal. We do marketing and general labour such as house painting or helping with moving, and we also help students with their courses by tutoring them."

"Okay. So, Cressida sent in a request? What does she want?"

"That is your assignment for today. Find out what they want, what type of promotions they want, about their products and such. And as usual, report back to me by the end of the day with your findings."

"I have a question: why are you submitting these reports and not the various departments here?"

"Well, I am the chancellor."

"I know that. Don't we have a division or sector where all requests go through? We have a security division, training team and all, but we don't have departments for requests?"

"We do. The reason why I take on some of these requests is because they are addressed to me. What do I mean by this? When people put in a request, they fill out a form. They can fill out whatever they want or need in the request form. However, some people do use my initials. They put my initials at the end of the form. Usually, only people who know me personally or were recommended by someone to request me will put my initials. People don't usually put initials at the end of requests. They would normally just put a thank you."
