Sanemi's POV

For today, all I plan to do is train. Walking in the halls of my estate, I stop to stare at the porch. I proceed there, and then head to the area filled with bamboos to cut, pretty much my area to train.

I wield out my sword, as I start chopping the bamboos one by one. Until then, I had been interrupted by my crow's call. I groan, wondering what it would be about at this time of day, especially when I was already training. I had no plans, all on purely training. Not even for eating, I couldn't care more about it.

I sheathe my sword back into my belt, then I walked towards my crow who flew closely by. No words fell from my mouth as I tilted my head and waited for it to speak.

It seems like I had been assigned to a mission, supposedly with a partner, but I wasn't informed on who it would be.

I just hoped it would be someone I could at least bare with.

A few hours later, I headed to the  venue of my mission, only to see the same face standing before me, with her usual gentle smile and endlessly kind tone, as she called out; "Shinazugawa-kun!"

Kocho Kanae.

I sighed at this, as I turned my head in the opposite direction of her gaze as I realized she would be my partner for this mission. "Let's just make it quick." I muttered, holding the handle of my nichirin blade as I proceeded to walk forth into the forest, not looking behind to check if she would follow.

Kanae's POV

'How rude.'

I thought, sighing lightly and maintaining the smile on my face as I followed behind, occasionally taking glances at his stern face. I then caught up to him, walking alongside him as we both headed to the designated area of our mission.

I don't think he has any intention for small talk, or even just talking. Although, it was usual for him. Shinazugawa Sanemi.. The brash wind hashira of the demon slayer corps.

I guess this is his usual behavior, but I wonder if he was like this to any of his family members? I wonder what his behavior would be like around his loved ones. Would he always be this angry?

Does he have any siblings? What caused him to be like this? Maybe it was a trait inherited from a parent, an ancestor, or whoever.

Overall, I have so many questions to ask about him, he really interests me. I'd love to get along.

Eventually, the two of us headed to a small village, it was midnight, the moon had risen, and I'm sure I caught Shinazugawa admiring the sight of the sky, how cute

Sanemi's POV

"Shinazugawa," She calls out, interrupting the silence as I turned my head to meet her gaze, her bright purple eyes which glimmered gently.

I huff, shifting my gaze away from hers as I gripped the handle of my katana, staring into the thicket of the forest nearby. I had no objective of talking to her about any topics other than anything mission related, my only goal was to get this mission done and get back with my training. I stayed silent as we both stood in uncomfortable silence, waiting for a demon to show up at any time.

Why had they even assigned two hashira? Was it that big of a deal? Otherwise, there had been occurrences where a person had gone missing, or a loss of a life. I kept my guard up, without any wishes of engaging in a conversation with Kocho.

Until then, a scream had been let out by a woman in the village, both me and Kocho turned our heads to the direction of the sounds, in which Kocho immediately and swiftly ran to the scene, and I followed closely.

We headed to the area of where the cry came from, it beheld the sight of a young woman, clothes stained with blood, and with a horrified expression, staring at a house in front of her, wherein the house was left with an open door.

"What's wrong?" I heard Kocho ask in her usual, kind tone.

"T-There's a demon.. In the house.. I-It killed my family." The young girl said in a shaky voice, she tugged onto Kocho and they hugged. I sighed seeing these two, but in truth, Kocho was a really kind person. I'll have to admit it.

No one's POV

It seemed the girl's name was Ayane, and she was about 11 or 12. She was horrified of the gruesome scene she had to experience, which led to her fleeing out of the house as quick as possible.

"Kocho, we should head inside." Sanemi spoke, his head turning to the open door of the seemingly crucial household. Kanae nodded, letting go of Ayane as the two stood in front of the door, stealthily stepping inside to avoid making their presence aware to the demon inside.

When they entered, they saw blood splattered on the walls. They silently made their way upstairs, where the demon would probably be present at. Then, there laid a sight of dead bodies, along with a demon strangling another human using a vine of thorns. This was probably made by the demon's blood demon art.

The demon then dropped the dead body, turning its head as the two hashira were now visible. "Kocho," Sanemi whispered. "Go and evacuate the people, I'll handle this myself."

Kanae could not argue with him, even if she wanted to be sure of his safety, she needed to be sure of other's safeties as well. Although, she still wanted him to keep safe. She simply nodded, and swiftly ran outside.

He then unsheathed his blade, not giving any time to talk to the demon as he cut the vines which came from its demon art, then cutting off its arm, also avoiding to step on the dead bodies.

He remained swift while fighting the demon, on the other hand, Kanae was evacuating the people, leading them to safety before fighting the demon along with Sanemi.

"Come here, you piece of shit." Sanemi chuckled, cutting his arm to make his own blood drop, hypnotizing the demon with his Marechi blood. He aimed again for the weakened demon's chest, now being able to stab through it.

They continued fighting, and when Kanae was done with assuring the people's safety, she ran back to the scene. Sanemi and the demon were now fighting outdoors, and Sanemi was injured and bleeding, which of course, made Kanae worry about him again. He was going against their promise.

'Oh, he's being reckless again.' Kanae sighed, heading to Sanemi with her blade wielded out.
