A/N:
Hey y'all, so this is my second story on wattpad (my first is called Cupid's Assistant). I got the inspiration to write this when I went to the Houston Rodeo with my friend back in March as a birthday gift from my parents. It wasn't my first rodeo, but it was my first in a while and going with my friend who not only competes in barrel raceing but her dad also competes in team ropeings, I had a ton of fun and got a lot of inspiration. I learned so much about rodeos and cowboys that night that the next day I thought three things, the first being: oh my goodness I shouldn't have eaten that corn dog!, the second being: when can I go again?, and the last being: I have to write a story about a cowboy! So here goes nothin'.
**************************************************************Meeting the Cowboy
When you live in a small town in Oklahoma, with people you've known all your life and half of the population is farmers, the only thing more exciting than new gossip and scandals, is going to the rodeo. I wasn't too interested in watching cowboys wrestling steers, roping calves, and trying to stay on a bucking bronco or a bull for more than eight seconds. Especially bull and bronc riding, I've always thought those events were stupid and a good way to get yourself killed. It doesn't make the cowboy look brave it makes them look like their skull is full of air. But just like everyone else in this town, my best friend Jenna, loves rodeos. Which is how today, I ended up at a rodeo a few towns away.
Jenna was overly excited the whole two hour drive, bouncing up and down in the back seat of her brother's truck and talking about the cowboys that are going to be there and all the prize money they have won previously. I rolled my eyes at her when she jumped out of the truck before her brother took the key out of the ignition. Landon, Jenna's brother, and I decided to take our sweet time to get out of the truck just to annoy her, though it didn't last as long as I would have liked it to last, because Landon was excited too.
Just like any other Oklahoma day, it was hot. The sun beat down on us as we walked to the stands. I lagged behind not wanting to be here.
"Stop lollygagin', Annie! I want to get good seats," Jenna calls over her shoulder. I groan and jog to catch up.
Landon throws his arm around my shoulder and imitates his twin sister with a high squeaky voice, "yeah Annie, I want to be really close to the cowboys, so I can stare at their butts, and take creepy stalker pictures, and maybe give a really cute one my number. Then I would have a cowboy boyfriend!"
Jenna elbows her twin, who doesn't even flinch at the attempt of abuse. "Number one, I don't talk like that."
"In my mind you do," Landon whispers only loud enough for me to hear. I snicker and slap his arm lightly.
"Number two," Jenna continues. "If a cowboy looks that hot, being butt, face, or body, then of course I'm going to take a picture so I can show the girls at school. And number three, who doesn't want a cowboy boyfriend?!"
I raised my hand and waved it in front of her face, "that would be me."
"Well you are just weird," Jenna huffs.
Jenna has wanted a cowboy boyfriend ever since she was twelve years old. When we were in sixth grade Jenna went to a rodeo with her family, which is not at all uncommon, except to her this time was special. She saw one of her favorite cowboys from the stands, she got so excited that she somehow found herself behind the metal gate that separated the livestock, cowboys and workers from the dirt field where a cowboy was roping a calf. She doesn't remember how she got there but she remembered security running after her.
Jenna found her cowboy, ran to him, and hugged him. He was very sweet, he sent the guards away and invited her to stay down there with him for the rest of the rodeo. He even dedicated his ride (that he won) to her. In the end Jenna got an autograph, a picture with the cowboy, a win dedicated to her, and a new found want for a cowboy boyfriend.
