I woke up and looked around. Everyone was asleep, around last nights fire. I got up quietly to make sure not to wake anyone. I climb over the rubble to climb on top of a slate of concrete we was hiding under, bare in mind it was hard as my hands was tied. I sat there looking at the sunset. It was beautiful, all the different colours. I've never actually seen a sunset in person. Well, I might have, but I wouldn't remember what I was like 2 or 3 years old.
Underneath me, Thomas wakes up looking around to see me gone. He jumped up, looking around, and probably expected that I ran away or something terrible. He spotted me sitting there daydreaming stuck in my train of thought.
He slowly walked up to me, "I'm sorry... I believe you," his voice was uncharactisticly softer.
"And what makes you do that?" I say dryly. I look down at my hands, fidgeting with the handcuffs digging into my skin.
"Well, you have a black eye meaning Teressa did punch you, plus when I look at you, I see a young child who only knew one thing. We just took you away from that... I'm sorry we took you from your family now you have no one."
I look up, unshed, tears fill my eyes. I quickly blink them to show no weakness. "I have Aris," I say with a slight smile.
Thomas is still standing behind me signs and says, "Come here."
I get up, insure what he wants, and I slowly walk over to stand in front of him. He pulls out a key from his pocket and unlocks the handcuffs. The handcuffs drop to the floor, and he pulls me into a hug.
I berry my head into his chest embracing the hug. It felt so right. "I'm sorry," I mumble.
"What for?"
"Everything." He hugged me tighter, making me feel safe for the first time in ages.
"Thank you," I said whilst pulling away.
"Come on, get a couple more minutes, sleep."
"I'm not tired," I say just as we make it back to the others. Thomas looked at me with a mixture of concern and guilt.
"I'm fine, I promise," I say, leaning against his bag. After a couple minutes of sitting in silence. Thomas starts shouting at the bird to shoo whilst I try and kick it away. Everyone starts to wake up, groaning at the morning light.
Teressa was the first to make eye contact with me before her eyes dart towards Thomas. "Why is she not in handcuffs?"
As everyone looked over at me, I threw my hands up and laying back down on Thomas's bag, he gave me. He looked at Teressa and moved to stand in front of me, blocking everyone's gazes except Aris, who was sitting next to me.
"She is innocent, and I trust her," Thomas says in a leading tone.
"Well, I don't." Teressa says, trying to walk towards me but being blocked by Thomas. I just watch with a mixture of frustration and thankfulness to have 2 people on my side for once.
"Don't you think giving her a black eye was another," just that sentence made me lift my hands up to cover my face embarrassed.
"You alright?" Aris pulled me out of my thought whilst everyone else is still arguing. I turned my head to face him.
"I don't know," I said generally, not sure.
"What do you mean?" Concern crept in his voice.
"If they carry on talking about me, I'm going to go mentally insane. You're going to have to send me to an mental hospital."
Thomas clearly heard what I said turned around, "Don't be dramatic," he said playfully.
