I paced up and down the cabin, chewing at my nails until Elex stormed in the cabin with his sword attacked to his back. Fury was written all over his face, and our next move was his call.
"Movement was spotted not far from the walls. We need to regroup and come up with a strategy. Keir was out hunting, and he made it back, but he doesn't know where the others are. All he knows is that he saw a group of people making a camp."
Shit. My heart raced as his words sank in. Our hunting source was jeopardized. If the people that stepped foot on this island sensed anything off, we could have a permanent problem. It would be too risky to even hunt or train out there for too many fae.
Enemies or not, if any of them obeyed the rules of the carnage, our people would be stripped down to see if they wore the mark. If our folks were caught, whoever was out there could send out a word to the kingdom for them to send more scouts over.
My mother's state only made the situation more vulnerable. If the walls came down with an enemy nearby—
"What do we do?" I asked, my voice edged with concern.
"We'll decide on a defensive strategy. We can't afford any missteps. It has to be perfect, because if anyone knows we are here..." He ran a hand through his hair and sighed in frustration.
I unfurled a map that I had got from under the wooden table and pointed towards the stretch of terrain between our current location, and a point a few miles distant. "I found this abandoned spot while scouting."
Desmond cleared his throat from behind us, startling me. I hadn't noticed he'd approached our cabin until then. "As much as I agree, putting these people in area's they're unfamiliar with could be dangerous. Going over the river will lessen their time limit far too much."
I squared my shoulders as my gaze reached his luminous blue eyes. "Maybe we should build a camp over there. Right now, our top priority should be making sure no one gets suspicious, and our food source isn't stable anyway. The people out there might not be our enemies, we could manipulate them into thinking we are just a group of fae looking for a place to camp at."
Elex interjected, his voice measured. "Nyx's has a valid point. This could be our chance to move forward."
"Very well," Desmond conceded, leaning casually against the doorframe lazily, and he crossed his arms with a hint of amusement. "We should be extremely careful about it, though. If we were to form some type of alliance, we need to make sure they stay away from this Island."
Every member of our village, regardless of their fae heritage, dedicated themselves to rigorous training. We understood that the time would come when the walls' magic waned, leaving us exposed to the outside world; a place where a simmering war raged. Maybe this was the start where we spread ourselves out across the land and help our rebellion expand.
The haunting part of it all was that my father was the man ordering heinous attacks against half fae. He was the reason why we had to be in this dome.
Ever since he became heir to the throne, he deemed that half fae were cursed, and a threat to those who were natural. Those who dared stand in solidarity with the 'cursed' were met with the same fate, ruthlessly executed without mercy.
And my mother was his main target after she rebelled against him, building her own army. Us.
Keir, the last commander, silently entered the room, a fiery anger in him as he got closer to us.
"We were just discussing an agreement to stretch our camps out to over the river"
Keir hummed to himself, scoffing. "So, we leave the dome and go find a new place to live?"
