Sahasya's POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(12-year-old boy)“Mom,” I called out, but she was too engrossed in conversation with Vashisht uncle, Dad’s friend from Delhi.
I remembered the day she picked me up from school, excitedly telling me we were going to meet a little doll who would play with me. She promised I wouldn’t have to share her with my brother.
Now, here I was in a hospital in Delhi. I wondered if that doll lived here, but the place smelled so bad.
That’s okay; I’ll give her a bath and dress her in new clothes.
I glanced at my little brother, snug in my mom's embrace. He was only Four, but he was Brat.
He always wanted the things I liked and never hesitated to demand them. I didn’t appreciate it, but he was my little brother, and Mom said I had to act like a responsible older sibling and sometimes sacrifice my things for him.
But I would hide my doll in my room, and my brother would never find out about her.
“You can meet her,” a nurse auntie said to Vashisht uncle who nodded at her.
“You go first, Bhabhi,” he replied, and Mom took my hand, dragging me along with her.
We entered the hospital room, and a strange smell hit my nose—ewww! It was the same awful scent I remembered from the hospital when Mom gave birth to Abeer.
I spotted Anita auntie resting on the bed, holding a small, fluffy, white towel in her hand.
“How are you feeling, Anita?” Mom asked, concern evident in her voice.
“I’m good, Bhabhi. Look, your treasure is so beautiful,” Anita auntie said, holding up the fluffy ball. I frowned, unsure of what she meant.
I wanted to see that treasure too.
I tried to peek, but I was too short to reach the bed; it was way too high for me.
“Mom, I want to see it!” I whined, tugging at Mumma’s pallu.
“She’s all yours to see, Sahasya,” Anita auntie said, but I frowned.
Did she really want to give me that treasure? Maybe she did! A smile crept onto my face, but what if Abeer wanted me to share it with him? “I don’t want to share it with Abeer,” I declared. I could already hear them saying, “Sahasya, you should share your things with your little brother.”
