"We can't be together, try to understand," Prakriti declared, trying to free herself from his hold.
But his grip only tightened, pulling her closer, though her baby bump created a barrier between them. He gently caressed her cheek and asked,
"Why can't we be together, Prakriti?"
The pain in his voice was so raw that she wanted to hold his face and soothe his hurt, even though she knew she didn't deserve his love.
Instead, she pushed his hand away, fighting back her emotions. She pointed angrily at her baby bump and shouted, "You know who this belongs to! Respect our relationship, Abeer—I am your sister-in-law!"
The tears she had been holding back streamed down her cheeks, soaking her soft skin.
Abeer pulled her closer once again and asked, "Did you ever think I was your brother-in-law when you were loving me behind your husband's back?"

She slapped him, fury blazing in her eyes. "That was a mistake, Abeer. Forget it," she yelled.
She attempted to step away, but he held her tighter. "Did you ever love me, Prakriti?" he asked.
She looked into his eyes, wanting to deny any feelings, to tell him she had only sought comfort in a dark and lonely life.
Instead, she hugged him tightly and said, "I didn’t, Abeer, I didn’t... But—"
Before she could finish, someone yanked her away harshly. Before she could comprehend what was happening, her lips were forcefully crushed under his. She didn't need to look to know who it was, his presence around her was enough to tell who it was—her husband.
