Jungkook stopped for a moment.
He knew they were in there, he just knew it. He had seen Jimin's blue Audi and Hobi's weird purple Mini Cooper from the parking lot. There was no way they were just there alone.
They would have invited him if it was just another brunch.
Something chewed at him, he didn't know what it was but it did. And whatever it was led him into Tiffany's.
It led him to say, yes breakfast for one. And it led him to follow Tiffany through the restaurant with one lonely menu in her hand.
It hit him like a tidal wave. It shouldn't have. But it did.
Jin, Namjoon, Hobi, and Yoongi all sat in a corner booth, like they were positioned there by father time.
And Taehyung.
It hit Taehyung like a ton of bricks too. He couldn't help himself. He put up a hand, mouthing hi in Jungkook's direction before he could think. It was a normal thing to do, right? To wave at someone who was openly staring at you.
The other four were dumbstruck, with panicky eye contact across the table in all directions.
Jungkook didn't react. He made to follow the waitress, beginning to thaw himself into motion.
"Uh, do-," Taehyung's voice was nearly inaudible, so difficult to hear that even Namjoon on his right side, sitting next to him, didn't notice.
Jungkook pressed his teeth together, brows contracting for a split second, making his face look mad, then sad.
He shook his head and gestured at the table, "I don't like sitting here," he shrugged, voice thick and heavy. He zeroed in on some specific spot in the corner of where the booth sat in an L shape, snugly tucked into the restaurant. A place right next to Taehyung's left side.
Jungkook shook his head again, "No."
As Taehyung attempted to follow Jungkook's gaze, he faltered.
Jin piped up, also following Jungkook's eyes, "If you want to join us, we can go over there, Jungkookie," he offered gently, warmth radiating.
The air around them thickened into a misaligned fog, awkward and stilted.
"l don't want to," Jungkook replied, "I wanted to have a cup of coffee, but instead I get to observe you doing whatever this is," he gestured in disdain. It didn't come out with its usual velocity. It was half-hearted, muted.
Jin pursed his lips, "Then I'll come sit with you," he decided, elegantly bounding out of his chair.
Taehyung squinted, not sure how he felt other than profoundly uncomfortable, "It's totally cool guys, I can go."
Yoongi's brows lifted, his numb reverie dissolving, "Huh?"
"Yeah," the younger affirmed, "I just think it's best to not. Maybe another time, but this seems weird," he fiddled with the cuffs of his sleeves.
Yoongi wrinkled his nose, internally agreeing, "Are you sure?"
When Taehyung stood, Yoongi nodded, putting his napkin down, "Alright. I'll come too."
