I ran through a forest, trying to reach Ben. I ran faster and faster, extending my arm. I leapt over logs, trying to stay upright. He stood still, waiting for me to reach him. I ran and ran but couldn't reach him. He waited and waited, but was running out of time. He had to go. He turned away and started to leave. I tried calling but made no sound.
I screamed for him again, my eyes flying open."Ben!" I screamed, tears streaming down my face. I wasn't very loud but got the two's attention.
"Faye!" Ben said in alarm. Both knelt to my side.
James wiped the hair out of my face, and Ben grabbed my hand.
"It's okay, Faye. We're here." Ben soothed.
Still in a daze and panicking, I tried moving away. I was weak and could only flinch back from them. I continued crying, trying to escape these people who were trying to help me. I was dizzy and could hardly make out who they actually were and was scared.
"I-I want James." I sobbed, barely able to speak.
"I'm here, Faye, I'm here." James said, looking into my eyes.
I shook my head. "You aren't him. I don't know you two."
Ben began to panic, looking at James with fear. James shook his head. "You do know us. I am James, he is Ben. Faye, I'm right here. Look at me."
I continued to shake my head until James held my head still. I continued crying and could barely see.
"Stop shaking your head, it's going to bleed more if you do. Faye, you need to look at me. I'm James, we've known each other for years. I'm right here for you. And Ben, you're new friend, maybe more than that, is also right here. Faye, we're both people you care for and are right here for you. It's okay. No one's going to hurt you with us around." James said, calming me.
My crying slowed and I could look at James more clearly. I reached my left hand out to him and he took it, moving to my left side so he could sit down and hold me. I cried slowly and quietly. I felt relieved it was them but was in immense pain.
"Faye?" Ben asked.
"Ben.." I stared into his eyes. My horrible nightmare came to my mind. "You left me. I kept trying to reach you but you turned and left." I said.
"It was a dream," James soothed. "Only a dream."
I nestled my head against James and closed my eyes again. "I'm tired."
"We can't let you sleep, sweetie," James said. "I'm sorry, I know you must be tired. But we need to get you changed and cleaned. We also need to get food into your body."
James sat me up while Ben got a long sleeved shirt out. It was a grey color and had buttons on the wrist part. James wet a cloth and cleaned my arms, stomach, and neck. Ben helped me put the shirt on, being gentle with my shoulder, and then found a black corset. He helped me tie it and then found a jean like material for my pants. James cleaned my legs and Ben helped me stand to put the black pants on. James helped me sit again while Ben searched my bags for shoes. He found high heel boots and regular boots that were skinny and had laces, both were the color black. I chose the second option and the two helped me tie them. James took out some of the food that had been in their bags and I ate a little. I didn't have much of an appetite and wanted to go back to sleep.
"You can't sleep now, Faye." James said, wiping a damp cloth on my face.
"I don't feel well." I whispered.
James felt my forehead, "You definitely are a bit warm." James gently wiped the cloth around, trying to make me feel a bit cooler.
Ben walked back over with some cooked fish. It was becoming evening again and all I wanted to was sleep. Sleeping wasn't an option, unfortunately. I gazed up at the sunset, my heart trying to stay beating. Ben gently grabbed my hand, rubbing the top of it and catching my attention. I stared at his face, wondering what could've been. Wondering what should've been. I gave him a weak smile, and gazed into his eyes. This wasn't my dying moment, I would hate to leave this way. But I was exhausted from the whole ordeal, and wanted much needed rest. James looked at me with concern hanging in his eyes. His eyes asked the question we had all been asking; if I slept, would I wake? It was a risk they didn't want to take, but I did. It was evening, and I could barely keep my eyes open. The way the two looked at me with longing, I had to survive.
I ate a little more and closed my eyes. I could feel Ben covering with a blanket, and then sitting next to me. He set his arm around me and I lulled off to sleep. The two would sleep in a timeframe, making sure one was up to check my breathing and pulse constantly. We were all tired. I could not wait until the day we could get home. I longed for it, longed for the day I could be back with family and my friends, and my pets. But I also wished that the thing Ben and I had going, would last even when we went home.
'I don't think she can make it' James said to Ben.
'Maybe we should leave her. The others say we should.' Ben replied.
'Maybe it's for the best. She's practically useless in the state she's in.' James agreed.
'Then let's leave her. Let's pack up the stuff and go.'
So they did. They grabbed everything and began to walk away. I tried to call for them but made no noise, and was unable to reach my hand out.
