Today has sucked, more than usual. From morning to afternoon, it was awful. So I went to the one place that hadn't changed since the last time I was in Nockfell. The lake.
Back in middle school, my parents would take me to Wendigo Lake and we'd just sit, enjoying the world around us and I'd often bring a book or something to draw on. In my most troubled and stressful of times, the lake provided a stable place to take a breather, to forget about the world around me. When we moved away, I never found a comfort quite like that. Something about the lake would always draw me closer.
Coming back after a couple years had made me feel like I was a stressed out kid that needed to calm down at the lake. So I grabbed my sketchbook, some art supplies, my earbuds and headed down to the lake. But sketching wasn't working so maybe I just needed to calm down and watch nature.
After a bit of silence and watching the water, my stress seemed to melt away. My day felt less chaotic and I was ready to walk away, holding onto that calm. I collected my things and began to walk from the lake, ready to end off the week on a good note. Out of nowhere I felt a body push into the side of me and immediately I fell to the ground.
I ripped my earbuds out and made sure nothing on me had broke.
"Hey!" I yelled back, as I double checked my phone.
"I am so so sorry!" Hey, I know that voice. I looked over at the hand out in front of me and then looked up at the person it belonged to.
"Holy shit...Larry?"
"Y/n?" I took his hand and stood up, brushing grass off of me. Larry's expression was unreadable for a second before a smile spread across his face. "How and when did you get back to Nockfell? Miss me that much?" He joked.
As Larry and I talked he looked over at the three other people with him.
"Oh my god! You haven't met these guys yet! Y/n, these are my friends Todd, Ash, and Sal! Guys this is Y/n, an old childhood friend of mine." He gestured to each of us as he said our names.
Todd had curly orange hair and thick glasses, with a long sleeve shirt and jeans. Ash had long brown hair with a purple long sleeve shirt that looked a little too big for her along with black leggings. And lastly there was Sal with long blue hair that looked like it was recently tied up, a black long sleeve shirt and red jeans. But the most curious part about him was the mask that covered every bit of his face expect for his eyes.
I waved at them and looked back at Larry. He looked down at my stuff and looked a little guilty. "Do you have somewhere you have to be?"
I shook my head as I brushed a few more blades of grass off my knees.
"Huh? Oh! No, I was just gonna head home."
"Well if you wanted to hangout and catch up, you're more than welcome to join us."
I looked over towards the parking lot and shrugged, turning back to Larry.
"Sure!"
