A blinding flash filled the room, beating the sound of the booming lighting which followed shortly after. Lily was petrified as she knew what was about to come. She hated herself for having the urge to flee the scene, but she knew she had to sacrifice herself for her babies. She felt guilty for having the thought cross her mind for even a second - Lily saw him fall, she saw the love of her life crash to the floor at the hands of Tom Riddle. It felt like she was drowning in the memories of their love. No wonder she felt this way.
Year 1:
Draco burst into my room at 7:00 am with a smug smile and a suitcase in hand, sporting a green and silver scarf around his neck - the Malfoys had been talking about it for weeks, how he was guaranteed a spot in Slytherin. In fact, it was all they had been talking about recently: Hogwarts, Slytherin, the Sacred 28 and the expectations of Draco to present the Malfoy name sufficiently. I got the jist of what they were saying most of the time, but it would be like putting a jigsaw puzzle together with all the confusing terminology they used - "wand", "muggle", "dementors" and so on.
He laughed at me lying in my unicorn PJs, caught completely off guard and having just woken up. I rubbed at my eyes, trying to become more aware and wake myself up.
"Aw, y/n. Jealous? You're as pathetic as a muggle!" He snickered down at me.
"Oh shut it, Draco. What's there to be jealous of?"
"I get to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and meet the Harry Potter. You'll be staying here like a simple House Elf. I bet they'll have you helping out in the kitchens and with the chores!"
I rolled my eyes at this and got out of my bed, pushing past him through the door and quickly walking down the stairs to the kitchen for breakfast before he could say anything else. As much as I denied it, I was very upset that I was forbidden to go to Hogwarts by my father, Tom Riddle. By the way Draco had been talking about it, Hogwarts seemed amazing, a once in a lifetime opportunity. And I was completely missing out. I told myself that I would at least get to hear about it every time Draco came back for holidays, and that would have to suffice.
30 minutes later Dobby was beckoning me outside to say goodbye to the Malfoys:
"Madam! Madam! You is needing to say goodbye to Master Draco before he is gone forever!" Dobby shouted at me seemingly in a panic, a common state for him.
"He'll be back in December for the Christmas holidays, Dobby." I laughed slightly at his nervous face and walked outside, through the intimidating dark oak double doors.
Narcissa approached me, dressed in fine, forest green velvet which draped perfectly down her elegant frame. "Y/n, dear. Say goodbye to Draco and wish him luck for his first year. We'll be back by evening so ask Dobby if you need anything."
I reluctantly walked towards Draco and begrudgingly wished him good luck, but we both knew it was ingenuine, especially when we shared a secret scowl hidden from his parents.
Year 5:
We scowled at each other from across the hall, a regular interaction. It was almost my turn to be sorted in the Great Hall and I stuck out like a sore thumb as a 5'5 15 year old amongst a sea of 11 year olds. I knew it was my duty to be in Slytherin, especially with who my father was, and I didn't really have a desire to belong anywhere else. So I was extremely relieved when the Sorting Hat announced me to Slytherin and I walked towards the cheering table, all eyes on me. After sitting down, I spotted a particularly heavy and unwavering stare coming from a few seats over, and I couldn't ignore it. I turned around and my eyes met deep sapphire blue. He raised a single eyebrow at me before he looked away with an almost unnoticeable smirk, leaving me wondering about him. I turned back to my plate and made eye contact with Draco who had an unpleasant expression on his face, as if something had suddenly made him mad. Too many extraordinary things had happened today that I didn't have time to think about it. I had been suddenly allowed to attend Hogwarts, my biggest dream, and now I was here, wearing Slytherin colours and about to start the next 4 years of my life surrounded by
magic.
