Amity always had the gift to speak to other animals other than cats she even had the ability to speak to human sometimes a.k.a. known as basically a translator for any animal so when her parents found out about that they wanted to control her so they had a witch curse her and her friends years later which turned her and everybody that she knew in to a witch or a human or a basilisk
