"Chris?"
"Hey Mina, did you forget something at our house." He said, sounding confused about why I was calling.
"No I-" I guess he must've heard my shaky breaths struggling to find the words. I heard him shuffling to find Matt's car keys.
"I'll be right there." He said and hung up.Chris POV:
My mind immediately goes to the worst situation possible. God, she must be so scared . I don't even know exactly what happened yet, but when she spoke, my heart dropped. I grabbed Matt's keys and hopped into the car. Before I knew it, I was pulling into Mina's driveway.
I ran out of the car onto the front porch where Mina was. I took one look at her tear stained face and knew what happened. I got down to her level.
"Can I touch you?" I asked. She reluctantly nodded.
I gave her a big, gentle hug.
"Did he..."
"Yes."
"Oh, Mina...." I heard her quiet sobs into my shoulder grow louder. My heart was breaking for her. I pulled away from the hug and looked at her beautiful face.
"Oh my gosh, Mina, did he do this to you?" I asked, gently caressing the hand shaped bruises on her neck. She nodded. I sighed, "okay, here's what we're gonna do. I'm gonna take you home. We'll get you all cleaned up and I'll get you some new clothes. Tomorrow, me, Matt, and Nick, are gonna come and get your stuff. You never have to see him ever again. Does that sound okay with you?" She nodded.
"Okay. And if you want to tell me what happened, you can. But you don't have to. Okay?" And with that, she swung herself around me, engulfing me in the biggest hug. My eyes got teary.
"Thank you so much Chris. I'm sorry you have to deal with this."
"No, don't be sorry. You have nothing to be sorry about. It's not your fault. Come on, let's go." I led her to the car, and opened her door for her. The drive home was quiet, but comfortable. When we walked inside, Matt and Nick shot up at the sight of a teary eyed Mina.
"Mina oh my gosh, are you okay?" Nick asked gently, putting his hands on her shoulders.
"I'll be okay, I'll explain to you guys later." She said. I shot Matt and Nick a look of sympathy.
"Mina why don't you go upstairs and relax, I'll be right there." I said with a sympathetic smile. She nodded and walked up to my room. I went and grabbed the first aid kit out of the laundry room.
"So are you gonna tell us what happened?" Matt whisper yelled.
"Not my story to tell. I'm not even sure exactly what happened myself. I'm sure she'll tell us when she's ready." I said, and went up to join Mina."Is it okay if I put some arnica ointment on your bruises?" I asked, walking into my room. She nodded, "mhm" I got down on my knees to get to her level; she was sitting on the edge of the bed, and I began to gently apply ointment on her various bruises. I wonder how she manages to look effortlessly gorgeous even after being bruised up, and crying.
"Any other bruises I can take care of?"
"I think my wrists are pretty bruised, but they aren't bad enough to need to be taken care of."
"Let me see," I said rolling up her sleeves.
"Wait, Chris-" my expression switched to one of genuine concern.
"Mina..."
"It's nothing, okay."
"Mina that's not nothing. I'm not mad at you, whatsoever. But why?" I asked, feeling my eyes start to gloss over with tears. I was looking at an arm covered in scars. Old and new. Some healed over, some looking just days old.
"It started when the abuse was really bad. I just felt like I had all of this pain that I couldn't control, and this felt like something I had control over. It's like a focus." I nodded along in understanding.
"When my sister killed her self, my brother kept telling me that she did it because of me. That it was my fault. And from that point on, it became a form of me punishing myself. I just....feel like a burden."
I got up to sit on the bed facing Mina. I put my hands on either side of her face.
"Mina, you are the complete opposite of a burden. You're like this amazing light in all of our lives. The thought of that light ever going out is devastating. I need you to know that it is not your fault. I need you. And so do Nick and Matt. So many people love you, Mina. I wish you saw yourself the way I do." She stared at me with that same adorable downward smile revealing the dimples pressed in her cheeks. With her doe-like eyes shining up at me, I couldn't help but beam at the sight of her.
"Thank you Chris, really." She laid her head down on my lap while I played with her hair.
"Do you mind if I text Matt and Nick asking if they wanna go help me get your stuff? I won't tell them what happened if you don't want me to." I asked.
"Yea that would be great. And I'd rather you don't tell them for right now. I would rather they hear it from me." She said with a smile. I can't believe at a time like this, she still manages to let a smile peek through.
"Chris, you ready!?" Matt yells out.
"Yup, coming!" I looked at Mina.
"You gonna be alright here by yourself? I can always force Nick to stay with you."
"I'll be fine, don't worry." She said while I stood up.
"Good," I bent over to give her a kiss on the forehead.
"Be right back." I said and walked out of her room.
Mina POV:
My face was left beet red. He cares so much when he doesn't have to. I've only known him a couple of weeks, but it feels like forever. I have to text Nick.

Chris POV:
"Sooo are you gonna tell us what happened? Why is Mina moving in with us." Matt asked.
"Why, do you not want her to?" Nick spat back.
"No no, not at all. I just wanna know why?"
"She'd rather tell you guys when she's ready. I already told you, it's not my story to tell." I said.
"You all good bro?" Matt asked, patting my shoulder.
"Yea I'm fine." But I wasn't. I couldn't get the image of Mina's arm out of my head. It was unfathomable to me how anyone could be hurting so badly, especially Mina, to the point where they hurt themselves. Poor girl. I jumped out of the car before Matt could even come to a full stop.
"Hurry up." I said to the boys.
"Alright coming" they said defensively. I knocked on the door, anxious for it to open.
"Hi Christopher!"
"Hi Ms. Karim." I said with a smile as she stood on the tips of her toes to give me a kiss on the cheek. Matt and Nick caught up to me.
"Matthew and Nicolas too? What a surprise!" She gave them a kiss as well.
"What are you boys doing here?" She said. Her Persian accent laying subtly between her words.
"We actually came to gather Mina's things, if you don't mind?"
"You boys are sweet, I actually already packed all of her things. It is not safe for her here right now. You could take it to her, if you'd like to help out."
"Yes ma'am, that would be great thank you so much."
"Of course, come back to say hi any time." She said with a smile, and we walked away.
"So that was a waste of time." Nick said.
"Maybe for you guys, but not for me." I said.
I guess Mina's going to be living with us for a long time. That's a lot of time spent together, possibly alone time. Maybe I should tell her soon. Or maybe I should wait. Perhaps, I'll know when the time is right.
