The sun rose on a new day for the three young men as they all stepped out of their homes and onto their respective porches. Tatsumi turned and bid farewell to his parents after sharing one last hug before he walked out and waited for the other two in the middle of the town.
Issei stepped onto his porch and turned to his parents, his mother shed a few tears before bringing her son into an embrace, his father also joined the hug and the three stayed there for a minute before Issei wiped his eyes and waved goodbye as he walked to where the three had agreed to meet.
Y/n's exit was less dramatic. He took a deep breath as Conifer gnawed at his leg before turning around to look at an empty house. His parents were both still asleep, and that was fine by Y/n. He hated seeing them cry for any reason, and knowing his mother would be crying hurt him more than anything. So he left a note and quietly closed the door behind him. As he walked away though, he heard the window to his parent's bedroom open as his father leaned out.
F/n: "You heading out?"
Y/n: "Yeah. Figured mom would cry a little too much for my liking and I don't wanna guilt trip myself into staying."
F/n laughed quietly.
F/n: "You stay safe out there, kiddo. Train hard. Play harder. Drink irresponsibly. Do stupid shit. Just... Have fun."
Y/n could see his father's lip trembling and he lowered his gaze before chuckling and waving as he walked away. Neither of them liked the fact that they'd be separated, however F/n knew his son well enough to know that if anything were to happen, he could probably get a wild Pokémon to help him home.
He smiled as he shut the window and looked over to his wife, who was lying facing away from him. He could tell she was awake by her trembling shoulders.
F/n: "He's gone now."
M/n nodded wordlessly and pursed her lips as she tried to hold back tears.
F/n: "You know he'll be fine. Besides, I got him some backup."
M/n looked over to her husband as he held up a photo of him standing next to her with a girl between them.
M/n: "I- Isn't she busy?"
F/n: "Nah. She's out exploring Sinnoh, so she's likely to run into him at some point or another."
F/n smiled as he placed a hand on his wife's shoulder to comfort her.
Back outside, the three boys had met up and were planning their route... Very badly.
Issei: "Look, all I'm sayin' is that we cut through lake verity and head straight to Canalave city."
Tatsumi: "Words cannot describe how badly I wanna punch you in the throat right now, Hyoudou."
Y/n: "Issei's directionally challenged ass aside, we should stop off at the Poké-mart first, get some essentials for the road, then head to Jubilife. Route 202's our best option and that'll take us about three or four hours depending on whether or not we get lost in the tall grass."
Y/n shot a glance at Issei as he said that last part, but for the most part, his friends agreed. As such, they wrote up a shopping list of supplies. Pokéballs, potions, snacks, and some other things.
Their plan was simple. The list was written...
And it all went to shit when they actually started buying stuff. They walked in wanting the bare essentials, and walked out with a load of shit.
Between the three of them they had picked up. Sixty Pokéballs, thirty potions, ten repels, three Pokémon grooming kits, fireproof gloves, firecrackers, various assorted berry seeds, three large tubs of hot chocolate, three large bags of marshmallows, a pack of reusable skewers, and a shit ton of food.
