"Princess Maellara, I did not know I would have the pleasure of meeting you so soon." Alicent exclaimed, gulping down her surprise as the doors to her chambers opened to reveal a girl just about her age.

She had never truly attempted to picture the daughter of the Rogue Prince, unable to believe he could give life to anything other than pain and suffering and yet instead here was a girl. A very pretty girl in fact, with long dark hair that shone like a river under the late afternoon light trickling in through the windows and violet eyes which pierced into the young Queen in a way which somehow unsettled and excited her.

"I have to admit I was very eager to meet you, your highness." Maellara greeted with a curtsey and Alicent took note of her riding tunic and drew the conclusion that like everyone in that Godforsaken family, Maellara was a dragon rider as well. "I have heard so very many tales about my new Queen and Aunt that it seemed practically sacrilegious not to make your acquaintance before this evening, don't you think?"

"That is very thoughtful of you." Alicent said with a smile, wincing as one of her handmaidens pulled the corset fair too tight on the red and gold dress that she was being dressed in. "I'm terribly sorry, it seems some of my pregnancy still clings to me."

"I do not believe that is your own fault, it is the dress that is clinging to you." Maellara said with a raised eyebrow. "Might I offer some advice, I do not mean to intrude."

Alicent thought she did in fact mean to intrude.

"Of course not, go on."

"Between women, may I say that red does not compliment you as well as another colour may." Maellara stated simply and Alicent let out a little shocked breath. No one had spoken to er in such a way in a very very long time. It would be refreshing if it weren't so shocking.

Alicent saw one of her handmaiden's go to protest but Alicent simply held up a hand to silence her before gesturing to Maellara.

"Then what do you suggest?" The young Queen asked, finding herself feeling delightfully curious as to what this utterly curious girl had to say. "Another dress?"

"Precisely."

"I believe it is far too late for that, Princess." Alicent said with a small smile but Maellara made some gesture to brush the statement off.

Stepping forward, Maellara separated herself from her handmaiden's and stepped behind Alicent.

"May I?"

Without even thinking, Alicent nodded. Ever the lamb following a wolf.

Maellara raised her hands and began to unlace the corseted, crimson dress that stuck to Alicent's figure. And the Queen let her.

"You are the Queen." Maellara stated simply and quietly so only they could hear, as she loosened the corset to allow Alicent to actually breathe. "You may breathe if you wish and they won't if you wish they wouldn't. It is never too late for a new dress, in that regard."

"I suppose you are right, Princess." Alicent said carefully, hearing Maellara laughter lightly from behind her.

"I shall never be used to that." Maellara said, moving so she was in front of Alicent now. There was a small smile on her face and her lips twitch as if she is trying not to laugh. Her violet eyes soften as they study the doe brown eyes of the young Queen. "I am merely Lara to you, my Queen."

"That is very... kind of you." Alicent said, the ache in her throat piercing as she tested the word on her tongue. When was the last time someone had been truly kind in this court?
