"Hey, Shine, are you okay?" River asked the Aipom with a worried frown forming on her face.
Shine didn't say anything, just continued staring into space.
"SHINE!" River yelled at the top of her lungs.
That seemed to do the trick and Shine's eyes bugged out and she jumped about a foot into the air.
River burst out laughing at the look of complete shock that was written plainly all over Shine's face.
After her laughter had faded for the most part, the Guardian of the Sea cleared her throat and whipped the water droplets from her eyes with one of her webbed hands.
She then turned to face Shine, who was now glaring at her with her arms crossed over her chest and an unimpressed look on her face.
Her voice was icy cold when she finally opened her mouth to speak. "River, what in the name of the sea temple was that for?!"
The small Manaphy gasped and stared up at the mischief-making Pokémon with a horrified look on her tiny face.
"Shine!" River nearly shrieked in outrage. "How dare you insult my home like that!"
It took a moment for what River had said to finally click in Shine's mind.
But when it did, the Aipom gasped in horror and covered her mouth with her paws.
"Oh my StarClan! I am so sorry, River!" Shine's gaze lowered to the floor and she avoided looking the Manaphy in the eyes.
The small water-type Pokémon smiled and gave her a reassuring look.
"Ht's okay, Shine. I know you didn't mean to say what you did." She waved her antennas in the air and flicked one of Shine's ears with a playful grin forming on her face.
"All is forgiven, my little Pokémon-Contest-loving BFF!" River grinned up at Shine and gave her a small wink, letting her know that no harm was done.
After a few more moments of silence, Shine spoke up in an attempt to break the tension in the air.
"So, um, what is it that you wanted earlier?" she asked her friend with a sheepish smile forming on her face.
River blinked owlishly up at her and tilted her head to the side in confusion. "Huh? Oh yeah!" she gasped upon remembering what she had been wanting to ask the Aipom a few minutes ago.
"Well, there's this Pokémon Contest taking place in the next town over and I was wondering if you wanted to enter it with me?"
Shine's eyes lit up and she did a few flips while bouncing on her tail for balance.
"Do you even have to ask?" she giggled and gave River a cheeky grin. "Well no duh! Of course you can enter the contest with me!" she cheered, laughing and spinning around while using Swift.
