(2 Months before the disaster)

“Zoe we are sending you and 8 others to the moon. We want to see if it is possible to survive a month on the moon” General Felix said to Zoe. Little did everyone know, a Nuclear War was about to break out and the American Government was leaving the rebuilding of society up to these 9 people.

We were sent to the moon the next day, only knowing it was a test, to see if it was possible to survive. As we land on the moon we feel weightless, and free for the next month we don’t have to obide by any rules set by the English Government to stop us taking over. As we have no clocks, we have no sense of time. A significant amount of time went by and then we saw it. But we don’t know what we saw. We can’t remember. No-one can.But I think Joe knows something we all don’t. Maybe. Ever since the ‘thing’ happened he has been acting strange. Rocking back and forth on his chair. Today he is acting even more strange, refusing to go into the rocket. A month has passed and it is time to return home. The rocket is ready and we are leaving. I try to talk to Louise about how excited I am to be going back home and seeing my family and my dog Maya ,but I can’t. My mouth is moving and I know i’m talking but i can’t hear anything. And it’s not just me. Everyone is trying to talk now.Are we deaf? Is it we just all can’t he---. Suddenly we hear the engines of the rocket roar.So we aren’t deaf? What has happened to the world. Literally just before we got into the rocket we could all talk and hear what we were saying, but the moment we stepped into the rocket, that ability was lost….
