CHAPTER ONE
BORN TO RUN
As the sun painted the room with soft, golden tones and a gentle sea breeze sailed through the open window, carrying with it the scent of salt and adventure, the distant sound of waves crashing against the shore serenaded Mizuno Kai into awakening. The rhythmic melody of the ocean, a timeless lullaby, stirred her senses, each wave singing its own unique story.Kai smiled slightly, her heart resonating with the call of the sea. She would never get tired of waking up to that song.
If it were up to her, she would have stayed in bed, surrounded by the warmth the blankets gave her and enjoying the ocean's calming harmony, but she couldn't. She had a long day ahead of her.
Throwing the blankets aside, Kai got out of bed, stretching her arms above her head as she walked towards the little balcony her room had, stepping outside and taking in the view. To her right was the ocean, glistening under the sweet caress of the morning sun, and to her left was the town square, bustling with pirates, marines, and a diverse array of residents.
Shells Town. Kai's most recent home, if you could call it that. She had been there for two weeks now, recovering from her latest visit to Orange Town.
However, it was time to go back.
Grabbing her things, Kai left her room, but not before looking at her reflection in the mirror. She ran both hands through her hair, combing it as best as she could, and it was there that she noticed her roots were starting to show, which meant she needed to go to a hairdresser, and soon.
After she closed the door behind her, she walked down the stairs, headed to the tavern. She had been staying at The Seashell Saloon, the local inn, ever since she arrived in town. The inn's owner was a woman in her late thirties named Ririka, who had been kind enough to let Kai stay despite her not having enough money to pay for a room.
Ririka had also assisted her in tending to her battle wounds, so it was safe to say that Kai felt an immense gratitude towards her. As a way to say thank you, she had not only paid her back, but she also helped at the inn whenever it was needed, along with Ririka's daughter Rika, a sweet little girl.
