Don't attack me, this is long overdue. I have had writer's block FOR MONTHS. I apologize for any delays but I have advanced in my writing, only a little thought. This is going to be a platonic one-shot but will be equally as interesting. This was requested by @RobertToro3 and it's quite long but I hope you like it.

Title: Unexpected Family

Description: You're 16 years old (will change as the story progresses) and talented in many ways but you don't do the best things with them. You sell classified information, and weapon blueprints, and partake in flashy robberies. You end up on Shield's radar and are deemed as either a threat or an asset. The Avengers spend weeks trying to locate you but never do. That ends when a deal goes wrong.

Y/N really shouldn't have taken that stupid deal. There was nothing wrong with the deal itself. It was the location and the outcome. All he had to do was break into a safe and steal the gem. He's done it before. However, his contractor had accidentally let information slip like a dumbass. He should've been faster. But he was too focused on the mission.

Now here he is, staring at the white wall in anger, in the Avengers Tower. He should've broken out of the cuffs by now but they took his lock-picking tool. (Curse Scott Lang for recognizing a thief's tool). Y/N is slowly losing his patience with the constant silence and no one speaking to him yet. He knows they're watching him. And he hates it. He feels like a hamster in a cage. The real reason he hates the silence is because it lets his insecurities pick and prod at his mind.

Finally, the door opens. He's surprised to see Director Fury walking inside with Tony Stark beside him. But his face immediately becomes annoyed. "Wow, the party guests have finally arrived. I thought I was gonna have to sit in this cold ass room for hours." Technically, he did sit there for hours. 2 hours and 3 minutes. Didn't make it any better though.

Fury narrows his eyes and sits in front of Y/N with his hands on the table. "We're not obligated to come on your own time, kid. But answer me this for shits and giggles, why are you selling classified information and weapon blueprints? You could be on your way to college." Fury says, his voice cold yet there is unmistakably curiosity in his tone.

Y/N scoffs and rolls his eyes. This felt like a lecture from a grandfather. "College? Do you mean the stupid excuse to place thousands of dollars into a stupid piece of paper that really doesn't do anything for you? I'd rather make quick and easy cash." It wasn't the full story but he doesn't care. He's not going to tell his backstory to a fucking pirate.

Tony speaks up, his voice nonchalant but sarcasm still laces his tone. "It's only a waste of money if you don't apply yourself. I've read your file. You're a smart kid. Why waste it doing illegal shit when you could be making 10 times more than you do now?" Tony figured being reasonable and picking at the kid's want for money would work. Y/N, however, doesn't fall into it.

"I just don't want to go to college. It doesn't teach you anything about life. It teaches you pointless bullshit that you'll never use. And I didn't ask for a lecture." Y/N says, rolling his eyes as he sits back in the chair. He winces when the cuffs pull at his wrists so he can't sit back all the way. The older men notice and soften slightly. But Fury doesn't let his show.

"What's your story? Were you always a criminal or did you go through some shitty traumatic event that sparked a flame of revenge in you?" Tony asks, shrugging as he takes a step closer to the table. Y/N looks away and stares at the red lining on his wrists from the cuffs. The adults could tell by the boy's body language that the answer was a yes.

"It's none of your business. I don't exactly go around telling my past to tin cans or pirates."

Y/N's tone is quieter than before and he's trying to be sarcastic but he can't hide how hard the question hit him. It brings trauma to the surface but he suppresses it like usual. No one can know, he thinks. "Just throw me in a cell and give me jail time."
