Self Awareness
I am writing this chapter today on a peaceful morning on the 3rd day of the eighth month of 2024. I suddenly asked myself, if I'm aware who am I?
Kung alam ko ba kung anong mga gusto kong gawin o baka idinidikta lang ito ng iba kaya iyon ang gugustuhin.
Is it enough that you know your weight, your height, your shoe size?
According to Ackerman, C. (2020), the capacity to view oneself clearly and impartially via contemplation and introspection is known as self-awareness. It is the ability to recognize your feelings, behaviours, and characteristics.
Being self-aware requires you to know more about yourself. Delving into self-awareness is knowing ourselves better.
Nangangahulugan ito na dapat kilalanin at harapin ang iyong mga kahinaan at kalakasan. Alamin kung ano ang pinapahalagahan mo at mga pinaniniwalaan. To become conscious of how you'll align your actions and behaviours with these apsects.
Start becoming your own person.
By knowing ourselves better, we can make more informed decisions, build healthier relationships, and live more authentically, aligning our external actions with our internal values and aspirations.
Natanong mo na ba ang sarili mo ngayon... Kamusta ka?
Physically, Mentally, and Emotionally drained.
Everything is so draining these past few days or even months right? Bakasyon, pahinga ang katawan pero pagod ang isipan. Mahirap 'no? Walang tigil ang utak sa pag-iisip na kahit katawan ay naapektuhan. Kaya biglang naisip ko itong isulat.
All of these started becoming my thoughts as I encountered an Instagram post saying–"You are a mosaic of every people you met." Meaning that we are mostly built with the help of others and that sometimes, we don't know who we truly are.
Start knowing yourself. Take time to reflect on your actions. It doesn't mean that you need to separate yourself from the others. You can even discover yourself while being with them.
Self-awareness is a journey, not a single day evolution. It's a continuous process of growth and self-discovery. Bawat araw mayroon kang oportunidad na kilalanin ang sarili mo. Huwag kang mainip, mahaba man ang proseso. May mga oras na malilito ka, magkakaroon ng mga pag-aalinlangan pero darating din ang bawat kasagutan.
Talk to yourself sometimes or take time writing down your self observations.
When we understand and recogized our emotions and triggers, we can manahe our reactions and responses better. This will lead us to a more balanced and peaceful life. Taking time each day to check in with yourself, whether isulat mo lahat ng thoughts mo o magmuni-muni saglit. It allows you to tune into your inner world and become more attuned to your needs and desires.
It will empower you to live more with authenticity. Stop letting others describe and write who you are. When we know who we are and what we stand for, we can make choices that are in alignment with our true selves.
It will help you grow and foster. Hindi lang sa sarili mo kundi pati sa taong nasa paligid mo. You'll no longer have to hide under the mask, don't have to pretend to be someone you're not, and start accepting yourself better.
Embracing self-awareness means embracing our true selves, with all our strengths and weaknesses, and finding the courage to show up as we are in the world.
