Note (from ao3): And here's chapter 5 everyone! Starting now, the post schedule might be slowed down due to me being too tired these days and being too busy with school

So if there's no update next week, you'll know why!

Everyone is sound asleep now. I told them Aphona's story. Just like I thought, they think it's just a story I came up with, not a real one that actually happened. I'll continue to tell this story to my children, maybe one of them will understand.

I go to my office and write what happened today in my diary. I kept that habit from sister school. It's helping me a lot actually.

Once I'm done with that, I go to the secret room to make the daily report. I hate doing this. The report won't be long since nothing out of the ordinary has happened.

Once I'm back in my office, I try to deactivate my tracker. I'm close. So close. Once I'm done with mine, I'll be able to reproduce the device Ray had made and use it on the kids. I'll make sure they all escape, no matter what. What happened to Aphona won't happen to us since, compared to her, we have a safe place to go to.

They'll see that I haven't lost my determination to escape.

When I'm about to deactivate it for good, I hear a knock at the front door. No one ever came before... So why now? And the middle of the night too?

I quickly put the bracelet back together and go open the front door. I open it carefully to reveal a man. He's tall, his hair is a light color with dark streaks in it, his eyes are stabbing me and he's wearing glasses. He's taping his fingers to his side.

« 63194? Emma? »

« Y-yes? That's me. What do you want? »

I take a deep breath to try to calm my nervousness and to not show it.

« I have orders to bring you back to headquarters. Grandma Jasmine wants to speak with you- »

« Why didn't she call me instead? Like everyone? And why isn't she the one here instead of you? I thought she would have the decency to come say hi herself. »

I'm sure the man can hear the frustration in my voice. If he doesn't, I sure do. The man seems to get a bit more irritated the more I speak. Maybe I can make him leave if I'm too annoying.

« Maybe Jasmine is the one who sent you, but I'm sorry sir, you came here for nothing. So, if you will excuse me, I will be going. Goodnight- »

The man stops the door from closing entirely and grabs my face, opening the door again at the same time. My cheeks hurt from how tight he's holding me. I try to get him to let me go, but everytime I fight to get away, he just tightens his grip.

« Cattle are supposed to listen. Not disobey. »

« I'm not-»

« -not cattle? I've heard that many times. You are cattle and you'll be one for the rest of your life. Mom or not. Grandma Jasmine asked you to go see her. Do not make her more upset than she already is. Don't make things even harder. Understood? »

We stare at each other. Him with anger and madness. Me with determination and rage. I nod, even despite not wanting to. I have no choice but to obey.

The man taps his fingers on his side before letting go of my face. He makes room for me to pass, but I only stare at him.
