Renee drove me and Bella to the airport with the windows rolled down, making all of our hair go wild in the wind. I am in Phoenix where the sun is shining with a cloudless blue. I was wearing a jean dress I have with high boots with heels and a travel backpack. There are a few things I'm not putting in my bags due to Bella trying to go through my stuff.
In the Olympic Peninsula of northwest Washington State, there is a small town named Forks. It is nearly 24/7 of constant cover of clouds and rain. It is said to be the most rainy place on earth, or at least in America. It was from this small town, that Renee left Charlie with me and Bella. In all honesty, I don't know how Renee got custody because she had no job. Maybe it was because this was still back in the 1980s and everyone was still a little stuck in the transitional views that women should be the ones who look after the children. Every summer and every other Christmas I went to Charlie's because, unlike my sister, I care for other's mental health. Well, if I like them.
It was Forks that I now live in. Charlie was happier to offer his house, I wanted to decline but he guilt-tripped me into it. I also only agreed because Charlie's bills are cheap. I may be able to save a lot more money than I would if I lived with Charlie.
Don't get me wrong, Charlie isn't a bad dad to me but he always tried to put his views of women onto me. He was the one to tell me that I was adopted. He was drunk and didn't remember what he told me. I was almost glad. That's when I stopped calling him Dad and called him Charlie instead.
"Bella, you don't have to do this." Renee tried to get Bella to reconsider coming with me to Forks. Renee is a good mom too, she is a total girl mom and never once favored Bella or myself over the other. Renee was a great mom, the only bad thing about her was that she was weak-willed against Bella as she was her daughter. Renee ended up marrying a guy named Phil Dwyer. He was nice at first, but then he started to get touchy with me. Renee didn't want to marry him but he said he would call social services if she didn't.
"I want to go." Bella lied, Renee could tell but didn't say anything more.
"Tell Charlie I said hi," Renee said.
"I will."
"I'll see you soon, you can come home whenever you want— I'll come right back as soon as you need me."
"Don't worry about me, it'll be great. I love you, mom." They hugged tightly for a minute and the both of us got onto the plane.
I may enjoy the travel if I tone out Bella. After all, there are four hours of plane ride from here to Seattle, add another hour to Port Angeles, then an hour-long drive. Add it up and that's six long hours.
I can tone out most of her rambling. We are sitting a good distance away from each other. I bought my ticket with my own money, so I ended up with a window seat and sitting next to another teenage girl. She had beautiful honey blonde hair and flawless freckled pale skin. I think she noticed me staring because she looked at me. "Hi, where are you going?"
