Chapter 4

Making A Song From Scratch Isn't Easy

So here we all are at my house. Since tomorrow's the weekend we decided that everyone would meet up at my house and we'd stay there for the weekend. We literally decided on this the second we stepped foot outside the school. So now we're having a totally not awkward sleepover. I mean, it's better than the original idea of going straight to my house and staying there the whole weekend. With how masculine these other guys are, they wouldn't last a second in my hello kitty pajamas. Changbin would probably rip my clothes if he tried to wear them.

Everyone seems to be having fun, which is fine but we're here to get stuff done. Then again, it's not easy to create an entire song from scratch and make it so that everyone can shine. Also, it's hard to dance in hello kitty pajamas. As of right now, Jisung is playing games on my switch, Changbin and Seungmin watching him from behind. Chan's all by himself, writing in a book. I go over to him, he's either lonely and in need of company or he likes to work alone. Either way, I'm about to nag the living shit out of him.

"What's that?" I ask, looking down at his book. "Lyrics, if they're not too cringey I'll make a melody out of them. If the melody isn't cringe then I'll make a track for it. If the track isn't cringe then we'll record the song. If the recording isn't cringe-" "Okay! I get it, it's a matter of cringe." "Precisely." "What kind of lyrics do you normally write?" "Uh.." Chan nervously laughs. "The lyrics I write are kinda dark, but I'm sure as things change my lyrics will change to suit that version of me. Right now my lyrics are pretty cringe but they showcase how I feel right now." "How long have you been waiting to tell someone that?" I say, half jokingly. Chan laughs again. "I practice a response in my head at least once everyday. You never know, right? One day we might be famous enough to get asked those kinds of questions." "I dunno, these days it feels like only the freshies get attention. People barely remember groups that were famous only a few years ago." "That's just how the industry is, there's nothing that can be done about it." "I guess.."

Me and Chan ended up sitting there together working on lyrics. We agreed that tomorrow we'll go over them as a group and start working on a melody if the lyrics are up to everyone's standards. I'm honestly surprised. Chan is incredibly kind and seems to genuinely enjoy this process. He's clearly dedicated to his craft, it's truly admirable. He's what the standard should be in my opinion. Someone who isn't just a recording artist but someone who participates in the process and enjoys it. My admiration for Chan aside, it was fun working with him. He thinks about everyone in the group and how we can all be utilized to create this song. I see now why he's the leader, he knows what he's doing and wants us all to succeed. I can rest easy knowing that we have him on our team.

I ended up sleeping on the floor while Jisung and Changbin cuddled on my bed. Go gays go, I guess. Seugmin and Chan also slept on the floor. Chan was gonna sleep with Jisung and Changbin but within five minutes he got knocked off the bed. The fact they can sleep together must suggest that they're super close. I wonder what that's like honestly, to be super close with someone, let alone a classmate. That aside, I left the others in my room as I went to the kitchen to make breakfast. I actually don't know any of their preferences so I think I'll just make pancakes. It's pretty much impossible to hate pancakes. Honestly, if any of them complain I'll shove the pancake down their throat. I will not tolerate pancake hate.

As if awakened by the scent of the batter, Jisung waltzes into the kitchen, taking a seat across the table and yawning. "What time is it?" He asks, placing his head on the table. "A little past eight," I respond as I mix the batter. "Really? Normally I get up late on weekends." "I usually wake up early, as you can see." "How long have you been up for then?" "About ten minutes, actually." "Wow, I could never. Anyways, what are you making?" "Pancakes." "Oh~ sounds.. nice." Jisung shuts his eyes and starts to doze off. If he was that tired he should've slept more. It's a Saturday so it wouldn't hurt him to sleep more. As I turn my back to butter the pan I hear the loudest slap I've ever heard in my life. With a little hesitation, I turn my head back to see Jisung wide awake and Chan right behind him. "Don't you think it's rude to fall asleep while you're sitting at a table?" Chan says to Jisung as he slips into the chair beside him. "YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO SLAP ME THOUGH!" Jisung yells, earning himself a bonk on the head. "How else were you going to wake up? Oh and, good morning, Jeongin." "M-morning.." After witnessing Chan's diligent side last night, I definitely did not think I'd ever get to see this side of him.. I can't tell if I should be scared or not.
