Chapter 14

(BEN)

Johnathan gave Ben a list of names of their most skilled warriors. Ben and Peter went together to speak to all of the men on the list. After hearing what had happened all of the men agreed to accompany Ben and Peter back to get Elaine. Elaine's mother Sarah and her blonde sister who Ben found out was named Lilly finally calmed down. Lilly was overcome with sobs when she thanked Ben going after her sister. Ben was grateful when Sarah took Lilly into her arms to calm her down.

Ben walked down the hall and into Elaine's old room. Both he and Peter would be sharing the room for the night. The next morning they would leave for Roderick's castle. Ben was the first one to get to the room. He knew that Peter was just a few minutes behind him. He pushed open the door then used his lamp to light the fireplace. When he turned around he nearly jumped out of his skin.

"Hello Benjamin." The Lilly purred as her blonde hair caught the firelight. She was laying in the bed with a thin sheet draped over her body. Ben spun around and put his back to her.

"What are you doing here?!" he demanded realizing what the house would think should they be discovered. He was tempted to run from the room but if someone were to walk in and discover her in the bed then there would be a scandal. He just lost one wife and had already moved on to the little sister. It would give him a terrible reputation.

"I should think it would be obvious what I'm doing here." She giggled. Ben's mind raced to try to think of a way out. And if he did get out then what? There would still be a girl in his bed.

"I want you to leave." He said still looking at the fire place when he felt a hand against his back. He jumped at the contact and spun around. She was standing directly behind him wrapped in a sheet.

"But that would ruin all the fun." She said.

"I don't want there to be any fun, I want you to leave." He said firmly looking above her head so he wouldn't have to look at her.

"After all my effort..." She paused seeming to catch herself. She bit her lower lip for a second as she thought of what to say.  "I did it just so we could be together." She whispered as she reached out to touch him. Ben stepped away from her and went to stand next to the door to escape.

"What?"

"Please?" Lilly giggled. "At the wedding? It was obvious. You couldn't take your eyes off of me."

Ben remembered how he had thought he would prefer the blonde to Ellie. She seemed so much calmer. Now he realized just how wrong he had been. "What did you do?"

"Oh please, my sister isn't the one for you. One look at you and I could see that.I don't know what anyone sees in her. Always running around like a man. She spends so much of her time racing through the trees with that horrible bow and arrow." She laughed. "My sister and I couldn't be more different." She purred and Ben looked down to find the door handle. 

She walked towards him and smiled when she was just a few feet away. He reached behind him and grabbed the door handle. Her hand shot out to grab his arm causing her to drop the sheet. Ben threw himself out the door and slammed it behind him. Peter was standing right outside the door.

"What was that all about?" He asked looking at Ben's terrified appearance.

"We are going to find a new room." Ben said blocking Peter's entrance. Peter looked over his shoulder at the door and Ben blocked his path. 

"What's wrong with this one?" Peter asked pointing at Ellie's door.

"There's a rat in there. A giant rat."
