PEYTON joined PJ and Josie in front of their lockers. They had spent the day trying to gather girls for the fight club but only a few seemed interested. They entered the gymnasium together and PJ let out a deep sigh when she saw the group of girls sitting in front of Hazel. The short-haired girls smiled and ran towards them before stepping up next to Peyton.
"What's up, lads?" she asked with a smile as she put her hands in her back.
"What the fuck." PJ ignored her. "These girls are ugly."
Peyton nudged her with a reproachful look. "PJ."
"Where is Stella?" her friend complained.
"She was booked for a car convention." Hazel explained.
"What? It's a Monday."
Josie cleared her throat. "Um maybe we should go maybe someone cool shows up, or before I die. Pick one."
"Come on, guys." Peyton looked at them. "Can you, like, forget about the whole 'Isabel and Brittany' plan and just focus on them." she pointed at the group of girls. "They're here because they need us, yeah? So let's do it."
"But what's the point if there is not hot girls here?" PJ cried like a baby.
Peyton felt like she was going to lose her mind. "Oh my God, PJ, I swear to God—"
She was cut off by Sylvie and an other girl who came into the gymnasium and walked past them.
"Hi, Hazel, thanks for the invite. I love David Fincher." Sylvie said.
"See?" Hazel smiled with satisfaction as they looked at the two girls going to sit with the others.
"I guess Sylvie's cute if she lost her braces and stopped huffing paint." PJ declared.
"She'd never stopped huffing paint."
At that moment, Sofia entered the gymnasium in turn and PJ sighed in relief. "Well, at least, Sofia's here."
Sofia stopped next to them with a smile. "Hi. So, what are we doing?"
Hazel began to search through the papers in her hands. "So I thought we'd start... um..." She dropped some, not finding what she wanted, and PJ lost her patience. She pushed past her to head towards the group. "Sorry." Hazel muttered.
Peyton put her hand on her arm and gave her a warm smile. "Thanks for trying."
"Listen up, you cunt-sucking piece of shit!" PJ yelled at the girls. "Welcome to our fucking fight club!"
"Um, it's a self-defense club. It's not really 'fight'." Josie intervened while Hazel, Sofia and Peyton came to sit with the rest of them.
"So! As we know, Huntington is on the prowl and they're picking on the weak and defenseless, meaning all of you." PJ ignored her. "So we're gonna teach you how to not take shit. We're gonna start with dropkicks, tackling, little bit of knife play. Then, punch-bucket, which is where you throw you in a bucket and we punch you until you bleed!"
"Before that, perhaps stretches, icebreakers, and trust falls." Josie said more calmly.
"Is that what happened to you in Juvie?" Sylvie asked.
The two of them shook their head. "No, no. Juvie was way crazier." Josie looked towards her best friend with incomprehension but PJ continued. "One time, this girl's punching me in the rain. Fall to my knees. It's muddy. I get up, I'm blind. Punch her right in the middle of her face. Broke her fuckin' nose."
All the girls nodded, impressed, while Hazel and Peyton shared a look. Sofia leaned towards her cousin. "Did they really go to Juvie?"
The blonde shook her head and PJ turned to her best friend. "Josie? Care to share?"
"Yeah, all right. Juvie was insane. Once a girl tried to kill me with rat poison, so I took her outside and I punched her till she died."
Silence. Then someone asked. "So you killed a girl."
"Uh, no. Because the ambulance came and revived her and we actually had a really productive conversation when she came back to life so..."
"But you did try to unalive Jeff." Annie said.
"Who doesn't wanna unalive Jeff?" Peyton mocked.
Sofia added. "I dream about it every night."
"Amen." her cousin replied.
PJ talked. "The point is, since Josie killed a girl—"
"She came back to life." Josie cut her off and PJ shrugged.
"Um. I remember her being dead for at least a couple minutes. Josie's gonna start by showing you all how to effectevely throw a solid punch. Josie, if you'll step forward." PJ took a side step.
"Nah, I don't wanna do that."
PJ glanced at her. "What's the problem?"
"There's no problem. I just— I'm not gonna do it." Josie shook her head.
"Come on, they wanna see the punch." PJ insisted.
Josie shook her head. "They don't wanna see it."
"They wanna see it! Look at them. They wanna see the punch."
"Who am I gonna punch?" Josie asked.
"Punch me! Just punch me." PJ told her.
"Punch you?"
"Yeah, come on!"
"I can punch you?"
"Yeah, I know how to take a punch. Some people would always say 'PJ knows how to take a punch'. Come on up—" Josie's fist crashed in her face.
PJ yelled as she fell on the ground. Josie shook her hand with a grimace of pain and all the girls rushed next to her to look at PJ who was straightening up with a bloody nose.
Annie looked at them. "Will there an advisor for this group? Because we'll be suspended if there isn't."
"Who is gonna be dumb enough to endorse a club where we punch each other in the face?" PJ replied.
