A flashing green LED light and a melodic ping-ing noise drew the attention of a young woman to a pop-up box that read, "One new message." A long, thin thumb hit the "read" option, and a smile lit up her full lips.

"baabe."

A steady tapping noise ensued as the woman tapped out her reply.

"Yes, Feather?"

Sure, Sasha knew that the woman she was talking to was named Faye. But the code names made the whole thing seem more... scandalous. In a way, fake names only seemed to make their relationship more real.

"Can we skype?"

"Of course," came Sasha's predictable response.

The old laptop Sasha used thrummed to life as she propped it up on the bed. She popped an earbud into her ear and lay on her stomach, swinging her legs up in the air behind her. A tell-tale whoosh sounded from the Skype app, followed by the immediate ringing of an audio call.

"God, I missed you." The smooth, alto voice flowed through the earbud, and Sasha automatically felt at ease.

A high giggle escaped from Sasha's lips, as she rolled her eyes, even though she knew her girlfriend couldn't see it.

"Feather, I've been gone for twenty minutes. I'm sorry personal hygiene matters called me away. You know, if we lived together, we wouldn't have to worry about technological communication."

"You and your obscene love for big words."

"Okay, technological is not a big word."

"What ever you say. It's almost summer. I don't have to go home this year. I'm coming to see you."

Sasha sighed, smiling faintly.

"You said that before spring break. And winter break. And all last year."

"Yeah, but this time I mean it. I've cleared my scheduled. Nothing's-" Her words were cut short by a wailing noise, only vaguely recognizable as a cats meow. "Roadie, please! I'm talking to a pretty girl!!" Faye scolded her cat, while Sasha laughed aloud. Both girls were smiling, though on their respective beds.

It was nearing four a.m. for Sasha, and yet only two for Faye. Sasha's words were mumbled as she began to drift off. Eventually, her words shifted into rhythmic breathing that Faye knew better than her own heartbeat.

The ache to be there with her, to hold her, to kiss her, to cuddle her was overwhelming in that moment. If it weren't for the way Faye was pushing the limit of the amount of missed classes the university allowed, she would have hopped on her Harley and rode all the way to Texas in one night. All twenty five hours from Sacramento to Austin, just with the wind at her back and the urge to be with the one she loved. It was scary how powerful this attraction was.

To think, it was all because of a website. They say 47% of Americans are using, or have used, a website that pairs random strangers together. Over a million people. So what were the odds that Faye would stumble upon Sasha? What were the odds that the message, "Say hello to SwanSong, Featherpen!" would pop up over the banner in the chat room? Faye was hooked on Sasha from the beginning. It was the Texan who took more convincing. The words replayed themselves in Faye's mind.

"I don't... date... over the internet."

That mindset didn't last long.

Faye let out a puff of air, blowing a short lock of hair out of her face. Oh, how she changed her mind. This whole, "See-but-not-touch," thing was out of hand. there was nothing Faye wanted more, nothing that she was looking forward to more than taking her beautiful Swan's dancer figure in her arms, and kissing those damn lips of hers. Sasha's lips were the icing on the cake for Faye.

Watching, listening to the way they brushed against each other drove her crazy with jealousy. Sure, it felt stupid to her how badly she was jealous of her lips. And the way Sasha constantly chewed her bottom lip... it was enough to make Faye loose her mind with want.

And Faye. She was gorgeous, in the simplest of ways. Simple was Sasha's favorite. She didn't care for gaudy jewelry, or flashy clothes. Faye was perfectly simple to Sasha. The beautiful contrast of the freckles splashed across her pale face, her tall, broad figure, the purple section of her boy-cut hair, her brilliant green eyes.

It wasn't just the looks. The soft-natured, gentle, easily content Sasha loved to sing and dance, confident in her abilities. She was easy to love, and loved freely and easily. There weren't many people who didn't like her. Sasha's small southern accent and quick wits won her a lot of debates. Sweet and sassy. Just how Faye loved her.

Faye had long since let her eyes flutter to a close, letting the soothing pattern of Sasha's breathing to lull her to sleep. She was almost gone off into the dreamworld, when she heard Sasha's breath catch.

"I... Faye. Love you. My feather."

Faye broke into a smile, and submersed herself in the dull numbness of sleep.

-Spelling mistakes (Its really late)
-This chapter being really short. It's just kind of a backstory/ get-to-know- the-characters a little more. I'll try to average about 1200 words a chapter!
