Pieces of the World

Sasha's arms gripped around Faye's torso as the motorcycle jostled smoothly along the road. Half of her strength she drew from fear of falling off the bike, the other half fear of waking up from some sort of dream. Faye was finally here, and she was everything Sasha had seen- and dreamed.

The rolled up to a stop sign, where no one else was in sight for at least half a mile. Faye turned to toss over her shoulder, "Hang on little bird," she teasingly called Sasha. Her internet name was, after all, SwanSong. "I'll show you why I love motorcycles almost as much as I love you." Both parts of her sentence sent icy hot shivers along Sasha's spine.

Sasha squeaked, and tightened her arms further. "Be careful!!" "Oh honey, I am anything but careful!" The engine roared and shot forwards. Faye's outstretched fingertips grazed the ground as she hit a drifting turn. The bike snapped back into place when Faye jutted the wheel out to catch them. They continued at a breakneck speed, with Sasha's eyes stuck open.

"F- Faye I can't help but think this is somewhat of a bad idea!!" Sasha struggled to shout over the wind.

"Oh, come on little bird! Learn to let go and have some fun!" She threw the bike into a higher gear, twisting the handle tightly. The bike shot forward again. Sasha was overcome with a feeling of vertigo, before she realized that the front wheel was completely off the ground and she was leaning backwards. A shriek spat from her lips as her vice tore Faye's breath from her chest. They hit the ground with a jarring thud. Faye quickly gained control, slowing to a speed that for once matched the speed limit.

"Ease up kiddo, I can't breathe!" She bantered playfully. Sasha was quiet for long enough for Faye's head to turn to look at her face. It somewhat tinted green, and the raw fear that lingered on it was evident. It took a moment for her to shake her head, and shoot an apologetic glance towards Faye.

"Ah... sorry."

Faye wheezed in a breath, and patted her hand. "That's alright, love. I shouldn't have done that. Are you alright?" Sasha nodded. Faye gave her a smile that made Sasha have to take another moment to catch her breath. "Gentle this time. Got it."

Sasha nuzzled her head into Faye's shoulder, sighing happily. It wasn't fair. She even smelled perfect. The reckless side of Faye had scared Sasha more than a little. It was a heath concern, to say the least. "Do you, um, continually put lives in danger on your bike?"

Faye's shoulder shook in a laugh. "Only when there's a pretty girl on it."

"How many pretty girls have been on your bike?"

"Other than me? Well let's see... one... add the two, carry over the four..."

Sasha looked as if she had been slapped, before she saw the playful smile on Faye's lips. She shoved her shoulder, forgetting they were actually on a bike. Faye swerved -only slightly over dramatically- and shook her head.

"I'm kidding. Just you. You're the only one for me."

"I better be."

Faye re-positioned the bike, and settled into a comfortable silence. They were content to just have the whir of the bike and the humming of the wind between them. Sasha closed her eyes lightly, blissful in a bubble of her own world. The rest of it all- lights, sound, it was unimportant. The only thing that mattered was Faye, and she was real. Real and right here in front of her. She opened them again, and watched the scenery flick by.

They were on the road for maybe forty more minutes before Sasha bored herself. She couldn't help it- she was a fidgeter. She secretly craved attention, and hated being bored. So it only took her a thought to lean up and whisper sultrily in Faye's ear.

"Faster."

Faye was taken aback for a moment. Surely her little bird couldn't've just asked her to increase her bikes speed- and in such a suggestive way. "You sure?" She felt Sasha's nod and smiled, the bike easily picking up speed. At this point, Sasha wanted to show her girlfriend that she could be reckless with her. She reached up and unsnapped her helmet strap.

This threw Faye for a loop. "What're you doing?"

"I wanna feel the wind in my hair."

'This is so unlike her... I kind of like it.' Faye smirked.

Sasha clipped the helmet onto a loop on the bike, and shook out her long hair. She leaned forward and kissed Faye's cheek, leaving her lips along her neck.

"What're you doing?"

"I'm bored."

Faye chuckled. This was just like her, who was she kidding? She was bored. Of course.

"I trust you."

"I know." Faye looked down around, as the began to crescendo up a hill. As if to show off, she tilted her head to the side and captured Sasha's lips. Sasha's eyed widened, locking with Faye's taunting ones. She smiled back. The second seemed to tick by, and Sasha couldn't figure out anything that was wrong with the situation. But something inside of her was screaming. The world seemed to freeze for a moment.

'How had it gotten so dark?' Sasha asked. One minute it they were fresh off campus on their way to- God knows where Faye was taking her. The next it was almost sundown. The colors of the sky were splashed so easily that it looked like a magnificent painting. Her world was perfect.

Her lips pressed against Faye's and suddenly she realized how purely idiotic they looked. For Gods sake. They were on a motorcycle, she had her helmet off, they were going way over the speed limit, and their eyes were off the road as they reached the other side of the hill.

Then the unexpected happened.

If Sasha had all the time in the world, there was no way she could've known what to do in this scenario. Headlights glared angrily at them, as if scolding them for their carelessness. The world itself was scolding them for their carelessness. Everything seemed so abstract in that moment.

The pieces of the world snapped back into place as the car made contact with the bike. Sasha felt air shoot itself around her, as if it were a cushion for her to rest against. The blissful, flying feeling lasted all to little as she connected with the ground. Her neck snapped back, throwing her head against the ground. Everything went utterly black.
