The beginning of everything:

My long narrow hands wrapped against the worn leather book in my lap. The mountains in front of me seemed to glow as the party lights flashed over my eyes.

My name is Clarence Summer.

I'm sixteen, a sophomore.

I have a family-me and my parents and my two brothers and our dog Bruce Wayne.

And I am completely in love with a Junior named Lance.

His arms are thrown around my shoulders, and his head dips and his lips touch mine. Something about him sends electric currents ricocheting up and down my body. He pulls me too him, and I am engrossed in the beautiful mess of his light brown eyes. His strong arms close around me and the hand holding the leather book seems to go numb.

"I love you, Clarence Summer."

And that was how it was.

Until-

The almost end of everything:

Hospital.

Flashing lights.

"Breathe, Clarence."

Lance.

My parents.

Liam screaming.

Conner shaking his head, believing I had given up.

But I hadn't.

My hand squeezed the edge of my rolling hospital bed, trying to show them I was there.

But nobody saw it.

The end of everything:

Georgia and her golden brown eyes.

Bethany and her blonde hair that swishes.

Logan the football player with his flirty grin.

My healing-all destined to end up forgetting everything.

I wasn't healing.

It was all an act.

An act to keep my town happy, my town safe and true.

I don't know why they didn't want to know the truth.

Maybe it was simple:

Amalie.
