Her name was Amalie Marie Summer.
She was born on Tuesday October 17th, 2023.
She had golden freckles and hazel eyes.
She didn't cry when she was born.
She died two hours later.
Her heart- stopped.
It just decided
it was over.
That it wasn't worth living.
"It's your fault!" I remember screaming at Lance. He took my shaking hands and asked me to settle down, to go to sleep, that everything was going to be okay.
"No. No, my baby is dead!" I screamed, pounding my fists against his chest.
"She wasn't a mistake! She wasn't a mistake!" My screams turned into sobs, which turned into heavy breaths, which resulted in me falling and hitting my head on a wall in the foyer of the hospital.
I woke up.
Lance has left.
My parents came.
They told me they loved me.
But I was it in their eyes:
"Why did you have to go and get pregnant, and then kill the little baby we had finally accepted?"
I didn't mean to-it wasn't even my fault.
But I remember thinking in the end:
Fire and ice do create something new:
A bigger disaster.

A week later I was out of the hospital and back at school. My friends asked me what happened, what was wrong, what happened to Amalie Summer.
But then, two days later, everybody went dead silent.
When I tried to talk about the baby, everybody looked at me in fear, then slowly confusion.
My town was forgetting.
My town was CHOOSING to forget.
If it kept their perfect town safe-
They chose to forget.
